By the time she heard two sets of footsteps approaching, then picked up the always-welcome scent of bacon, she had a pretty good idea of what had happened. Joshua came in first, carrying two plates of bacon sandwiches in one hand and clutching a mug in the other. Taylor followed with his own mug and plate. Joshua held his arm out, indicating Kim should take the nearest sandwich. “Done how ye like it—crispy but no’ burnt, wi’ a splash o’ brown sauce. I ken it’s nowhere near breakfast time yet, but,” he shrugged, “it’s brain food, isnae it?” She smiled as she took the plate and put it down on the desk. “I don’t think it is, but who cares?
