Fori Imperiali, Rome March 1985Tamara and Giorgio wandered the streets of Rome and slowly ambled toward the old Roman Forum, the Fori Imperiali where the ancient government convened. It had once been an organized cluster of magnificent buildings, towering white columns topped with terracotta roofs, temples to various deities, streets organized to highlight the walk of dignitaries gathering for political debate , and soaring sculptures that capped each building as a testament to the greatness of Rome. It had been the scene of many historic events, not least of which was the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 B.C.E.
