Chapter 9: Case #1 The Ghost Is A Third Wheel (1)
***
“He’s gonna be here soon...” Ezikiel repeated in a low mutter under his breath as he walked in circles around the living room.
“What’s gotten your panties in a twist? He’s just going to come here to discuss some boring work shit... Why are you acting like you’re going on a date with him or something?” Weiss asked as he tilted his head to the side and watched the man that seemed somehow a pitiful sight to him.
“I’m worried because I don’t know what he wants to say to me, is he going to fire me because of what happened? Do you think?” Ezikiel asked as he turned to the ghost, he stopped pacing as to wait for the other’s response.
“He just threw up a bit... I doubt he’d get rid of you because of that...” Weiss explained, this time surprisingly he seemed like the more levelheaded person out of the two.
“He threw up... right... it was because of your possession and not because of the kiss, right?” Ezikiel asked with such a deadpan voice and expression you’d have to wonder if he wasn’t attempting to make a silly joke. However Weiss knew the man wasn’t one to make such jokes thus he answered him truthfully...
“Who the Hell throws up because of a kiss?” He asked as he sighed heavily and buried his head into the sofa. “So stupid...” He remarked quietly but the other didn’t hear him
“He’s germophobic... so maybe he was so disgusted with me that he threw up...” Ezikiel said in a more panicked voice, truly it was only things that involved Aster that ever made him look so emotional and helpless, despite his usually calm demeanor.
“Well it is true that I haven’t seen a human react so badly before...” Weiss pulled his head out of the sofa and turned around. “Yet... that doesn’t mean—” Before he could utter another word the man burst out interrupting him.
“See, I knew it! I’ll go wash my teeth! My mouth... I’ll shower again even!” Ezikiel headed upstairs but Weiss quickly pulled him down again.
“Hold up, clean freak... you’ve already showered plenty... and besides you’re not going to be smacking lips with him again, so what do you really care?” At this point Weiss was becoming gradually annoyed, whether it was because of Ezikiel’s consistent whining or otherwise was unknown even to himself.
“Why would I expect a ghost to understand me?” Ezikiel sighed as he turned back around, seemingly given up on his plan.
“Hey! I used to be a human as well!” Weiss retorted as he crossed his arms, his face turned to the side as if he was pouting.
“Right and now you have no memories so you’re worse off than me even...” Ezikiel complained while seemingly reverting back to his usual rather stoic and calm self.
“What a smarty pants... want me to poses your boss and f**k you in his body? You don’t seem to mind much—” At that Weiss felt a shiver run down his non existent spine. A cold stare was looking at him with such killing intent it would make the average person freeze in fear.
“You dare touch him again and you’ll regret it...” Ezikiel said those simple choice words and Weiss instantly felt the large lump in the back of his throat was a bit more bearable. He swallowed hard and replied. “Yes, sir.” With much enthusiasm.
“He’s here...” Ezikiel said as he heard the knock on the door, he hurried off to open it.
‘Geez... why do you have to get so excited over him... is it because he’s your boss or because you actually secretly like him?’ Weiss wondered to himself, he felt how more irritated he’d become that day, although he couldn’t explain why he felt the way he did.
“Sir... welcome-” Ezikiel opened the door but the way he was greeted by the man was unlike what he expected.
“Hello.” Aster spoke with his usual cold tone, dressed from head to toe in luxury items, the three piece suit he was wearing was worth as much as Ezikiel’s car, which he was still paying back. Just from the way Aster looked at that moment you could tell what kind of person he was... or maybe you’d be able to create a perception of him even without the need to speak to the man. Aster’s exterior was that of a charismatic, well put together masculine man with a very sophisticated high class air surrounding him. It was the kind of feeling that it was difficult to come by and ignore later.
Ezikiel was left more or less tunned as the man walked by him to get inside, lightly brushing his shoulder against the other unknowingly... ‘There’s a whole entire ghost inside... yet Aster’s the one that looks out of this world...’ He thought to himself as his train of through was broken when Aster called out to him.
“I didn’t know what you like to drink so I brought something simple...” Aster said as he set the single wine bottle onto the table in the living room.
“Oh, sir you didn’t need to--” Ezikiel glaned at the label, instantly recognizing it. ‘Simple?’ He wondered to himself as he moved closer to confirm his suspicions. ‘That’s a Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti Grand Cru!! In what world is a wine costing over 20,000$ something simple?!’ Ezikiel felt a little bit dizzy just by the thought of it.
‘That thing belongs in a rich person’s overpriced wine collection not in my home! Then yet... I bet everything here smells like minimum wage to someone like Aster...’ Ezikiel suddenly felt like retrieving into a cave for the winter, this was a bit too embarrassing for him.
“Is it no good? I should have asked what you liked, I’m sorry...” Aster apologized as he looked at the bottle a bit saddened.
“N-n-n-n-o, sir! It’s wonderful just... I think it’s a bit too pricey for me to drink... just...” Ezikiel said in a great panic as he pointed to the bottler. ‘Shit... I just told him what I actually think....’ He thought to himself, feeling another headache coming over him anytime soon.
“..........” Aster seemed to take a moment to think before finally replying. “Don’t be ridiculous, it’s wine, it’s meant to be drinker. What other use do I have for it?”
‘That is technically correct but... I mean... that’s like drinking up straight gold you know! It’s ridiculously expensive...’ He thought to himself but decided not to argue and settled down. Ezikiel was never the type to enter into conflicts for no reason.
“Why are you so far away?” Aster asked as he noticed the man was seated at the exact opposite end of the sofa, almost as if he was trying to put as much distance as humanly possible between them.
“I don’t want to intrude on your space, sir.” Ezikiel admitted. ‘If I could limit my breathing as well I would...’ He thought to himself nervously. His heart was already beating so fast that it was difficult to stay focused.
“Come here...” Aster commanded, his voice sounding as calm and mature as ever yet there was this dominating vibe that almost never seemed to appear before.
“Yes, sir...” Ezikiel was a bit reluctant but followed orders none the less as if it was a habit he’d developed without realizing. As he moved closer however Aster placed one of his arms around his waist.
“What’s the matter, sir?” Ezikiel asked as he felt the man pull him closer, their faces were in too short of a proximity for him to be calm, although his face looked deadpan as ever, inside Ezikiel’s mind he was panicking.
“I’m not disgusted by you... strange...” Aster remarked as he let go of the man, and opened the wine ever so casually as if nothing had happened.
“T-thanks? Sir...” Ezikiel replied with a bit of a delay in his response. His eyes widened as he watched the man pour him a drink. “Um... sir... weren’t we here on working matters?” He asked.
“Hm? No, I wanted to drink with you-” Aster replied as calmly as ever before he heard the boisterous laughter from someone else in the same room.
“HAHAHA~! Damn your boss really knows how to live it up, right?” Weiss asked as he chuckled to himself. “Damn expensive wine~ Wish I could drink some!” He complained as he flew above the table ever so casually.
“Ah, you were here as well...” Aster remarked in a less than happy sounding voice as he glanced aside. His eyes drifting away to nothing in particular.
“Of course I am! I live here!” Weiss said proudly as he put both his hands at the side of his hips.
“I’m sorry if you misunderstood me just now, Ezikiel...” Aster looked back at the man. “What I meant to say was that I typically hate human contact... by anyone... but when it comes to you, I don’t mind it. That’s why I found it so odd...” He explained himself as he took hold of Ezikie’s hand again...
