10. Big Bad Wolf

456 Words
Kyle and I kept each other company for the whole afternoon, and when it finally was time to head home, we chose the long way, in an attempt to spend some more minutes together. When we neared the house, I was almost startled to find myself staring into the deep chocolate brown orbs I had once crushed on and fantasized so much about. Ethan. What was he doing here? Could it be he had come seeking forgiveness from Claire for having said hurtful things he meant nothing of when he was drunk? Drunk? The guy had been as sober as they come, Anna. Stop trying to come up with excuses for the guy! My thoughts were a spinning mess, and it showed in the faltering of my steps, and then in the abrupt way my mouth decided to shut up.   What was it about this guy that made me lose my mind unconsciously but almost willingly too? I remembered his brief caress and a shiver of awareness travelled down my spine. I saw him stiffen for some reason as I stopped at a few feet from him, a silently pensive Kyle by my side. “Anna,” Ethan started as he approached me, and I took a step back. An emotion I couldn’t quite put my finger on flashed through his eyes, and I tilted my head to the side in a quizzical manner. “Can we talk?” He asked me hesitantly, which was very unlike him –unlike the confident Ethan Young I used to crush on. “I… I…” I stammered on my words, not knowing what to say, how to decline, wishing I could run away, away from him, away from Claire, away from high school and its drama and silly problems. Kyle put a reassuring hand on my shoulder, and I noticed the glare that was sent his way but ignored it in favor of looking into my best friend’s eyes. “You should listen to him,” the blond-haired green-eyed jock I had grown to admire told me, a secretive smile stretching his lips. I thought it through for a few seconds before deciding to heed his advice. “Let’s talk,” I clapped my hands three times in a mock cheerful manner. Ethan glared at Kyle who just raised his hands in surrender before letting out on a chuckle, “I’m leaving, man. I’m leaving. Goodbye, Belle.”   It was my turn to glare at Kyle’s retreating back. How could he leave me alone with big bad wolf? Little did I know just how much of a big bad wolf Ethan Young truly was!
