Darkness fell slowly on the compound, and Yaliana waited for her chance to escape. She knew what time the guard usually changed, and that the short space of time when there were no guards would be the best time to get out. She had tied a bunch of the sheets together and hoped the makeshift rope would be long enough to reach the ground. Now. The time had come. After removing the IV from her arm, she tied the blanket rope to the rail of the bed, limped to the window, and opened it. The alarm sounded. Immediately, Yaliana lowered her body out the window and began to rappel down the side of the building, favoring her good leg. The rope didn’t quite reach the bottom, forcing her to drop a few feet. She hit the ground and rolled to disperse the impact of the drop, but her knee jarred painfully
