Chapter 7

The following day Jesse was sitting with her back up against the back wall of the art faculty building, smoking a cigarette with her art friends as she did every lunchtime. A couple of them were playing hacky sack while some others were on their phones, others were using the Sun’s light to sketch. They had music playing from someone's phone through a Bluetooth speaker and everyone was chilled, just another typical lunchtime for the art faculty students, hidden away in this disused corner of campus where the utility shed containing all the excess paints, wood, canvases and other stuff was situated. Except that Jesse was far from chilled and was feeling rather jumpy and out of sorts, thanks firstly to Adler and Trey and secondly to the conversation she had with Tobias Silva last night when he had picked her up from Madam Veitche’s house and taken her home. He had grabbed her wrist, hurting her, as she cringed in the passenger seat of his Audi and had told her to not speak to any of the wolfs on campus and to keep away from them. She had no idea how he knew about Adler but had pleaded with him to not say anything to Pieter or his father, she didn’t need trouble. She sighed and buried her face in her arms, pulling her knees up and resting her arms upon them as she held the half smoked cigarette. Jesse looked up from her arms as she noticed a sudden vibe change in the atmosphere. She gasped in shock to see four huge shadowy figures standing with their backs to the sun, invading the calm and chilled space with their dominant auras. One of them was standing forward of the other three and looking around at all the delinquent students, a mix of human and fox. Jesse quickly raised the hood of her jacket, trying to shelter her face, but not quick enough. Adler grinned when he saw her sitting on the ground, with her knees pulled up and her hood pulled over her face as she peeked out from it. He walked over, standing directly in front of her, touching his toes to hers, his hands in the pockets of his letterman jacket. “Are you trying to hide from me?” He asked casually enough but it still made Jesse flinch. She looked up and flicked the butt of her cigarette up at him. “Why are you here?” Adler cursed and patted his top down, stomping on the butt. “Looking for you…didn’t I just make that clear?” A hint of annoyance entering his voice at her belligerence. He slid his gaze to the human guy that was sitting on the ground next to Jesse and gave him a truly nasty glare. “Move!” He ordered. The guy looked at Jesse with an apologetic glance, muttered sorry and scrambled away like he was in fear for his life. Adler smirked and sat down next to Jesse, purposely close so his shoulder and arm was touching hers. Trey sat down on the other side of her, trapping her in. “What do you want, Adler?” Jesse muttered, barely breathing. “You’re not answering my messages.” “So…” He clucked his tongue, trying to keep his cool, but his wolf raged within him making his skin itch. “I wanted to have lunch with you, but you weren’t ever in the cafeteria…today I thought I would search for you…I asked a couple of the art dudes and they said you were probably hanging out around here…smoking…you know that’s a filthy habit…you’ll give that sh!t up now, hand them over.” Jesse stared at him, disbelief clear on her face. “Listen here, asshole! Who the f**k do you think you are?” Adler calmly, with an amused smile like he had hoped she would argue with him, leaned in over her. Jesse leaned away but hit Trey’s shoulder. The look in Adler’s eyes caused Jesse anxiety, making her heart thump hard in her chest. “Who do I think I am? Do you really want me to say it? Hand. Them. Over.” Jesse continued to stare at him like he had two heads, then Adler saw her eyes narrow in defiance and the spark of fire ignite in them. “Trey!” Adler barked out in a sharp Alpha tone. Trey rotated around, causing Jesse to fall back into him while at the same time he grabbed her arms, slipping his in through her elbows and locking her arms behind her back. Adler fought her legs as Jesse started kicking out at him, until he was over them and sitting on her thighs. They had her stretched out on the ground between them while Colton and Maxim held off the small crowd that were yelling to let her go. Adler started going through her pockets and pulled the cigarette packet and lighter out, putting them in his own pocket, then leaned over her and pinched her chin between his thumb and finger. Jesse was still tensed up and struggling fiercely against them, cursing wildly. Adler locked eyes with her, his glowing a soft golden colour as his wolf surged forward in his consciousness. “Calm down, little fox and listen. I’m not going to hurt you…in fact…” He lifted his other hand and pulled her hood down from her face and brushed the messy stray hair away, then leaned in and planted his lips over hers. As Trey held her firmly from behind, laughing and hollering, as did Colton and Maxim who had managed to scare back any brave individuals, most deciding it was better to flee the scene than be involved. Adler forced his tongue into Jesse’s mouth and kissed her fully, his wolf possessively taking his fill of his mate’s soft mouth and locking his mouth fully over hers, devouring her as he surged with fierce joy at being able to finally touch his mate. His hand cupping the back of Jesse’s neck holding her to his mouth strongly as she tensed against him. Both Adler and Trey felt Jesse’s body go limp as she let out a little whimper of defeat. Adler pulled away and looked at her face, remorse flooding through him as his mind slammed back into control. His wolf was all wild instinct with no thought processes about what was appropriate in human society. She was looking back at him, her eyes welling with unshed tears as she sucked her swollen bottom lip into her mouth. Adler suddenly felt terrible and quickly stood up, abashed. He awkwardly backed up, rubbing the back of his neck. “Let her go!” He snapped at Trey. Trey let her arms go and stood up, untangling from her and stepped away, holding his hands out low and submissive as Adler’s alpha aura bent his will. Jesse stayed sprawled on the ground, looking up at Adler with contempt and fear, too scared to move. Adler felt a jolt of despair from his wolf that he had done the wrong thing and now she would possibly reject him, it flared through him again as his wolf fought him for control. His wolf couldn’t give her that chance as he growled down at her defiant expression, as at the same time he felt something else deeper within him stir at the prospect, his beast would not allow that to happen either. Jesse startled at his feral growl and looked away, submissively, still not daring to move. Adler smirked as he felt his wolf and beast relax back under his control. “That’s better. Be at my car at the end of the day, I’ll take you home. You know it, the black Charger, parked in the main carpark.” “No.” Jesse’s voice was clear and concise, although she still wouldn’t look at him. “What was that…I didn’t hear you?” Adler came over the top of her, placing a foot on her chest and pressing her to the ground. She wouldn’t look at him, her head turned away and a curtain of black hair obstructing his view of her face. “You’re mine, foxy witch, whether you like it or not…if you are not at my car at the end of the day today I will hunt you down.” Adler bared his teeth at her as she had slowly turned, wide-eyed to stare at him, shocked at his words. Adler stepped over her and casually walked away. Jesse sat up on her elbows and watched as Trey walked backwards leering at her and giving her a wink as the other two howled and laughed, clapping their arms around Adler’s shoulders and following him. “Son of a b!tch!” Jesse exclaimed as she sat up, wiping her mouth and spitting on the ground. “Are you okay?” One guy tentatively came forward to help her up. Jesse slapped his hand away. “No thanks to you!” She scrambled up on her own. “Sorry, but their footballers, what can we do?” Jesse huffed and stuck her hands in her pockets. “I know…and I would hate for any of you to get involved…I seriously don’t get why he’s suddenly taken this interest in me…” “What are you going to do about meeting him later?” The young human asked nervous for her. He had never been bullied by Adler and the football team, but knew of people who had been, although this is the first time he had ever seen or heard of them bullying a girl. Jesse grinned a strange savage smirk. “He can go to hell! I’m leaving now, see how he likes that!” “Now?” Jake, the young fox asked, he also seemed nervous for her like it would be a bad decision. “Yeah…want to come with?” She asked hopefully, since he had offered to go with her yesterday. Jake’s eyes narrowed and he smirked at the offer. “Sure…okay…where to this time?” His attitude changing to supportive all of a sudden as his eyes sparkled. “Let’s go to the abandoned hospital…” Jesse looked up at the faces of the five others that had stuck around. “Want to come?” “Nah, that place creeps me out...” One guy said. “I’ll come…it was a blast last time…” Another answered. “Are you going to dance around the fire again?” Jesse laughed. “Yeah, why not…let’s do a little voodoo…” She waggled her fingers at the humans as the two foxes, Jake and Scott knew she was serious. “I really think Pieter should be told about this…at the very least…that f*cker just assaulted you!” Scott piped up as he stepped in close to her, lowering his voice. Jesse stopped and looked at the ground. “Yeah, maybe…” This was starting to get a little too intense for her to handle alone. Adler was scary when his wolf appeared, it was so powerful and unpredictable. “I’ll talk to him later, okay?” She looked up at Scott’s worried expression. “Make sure that you do…those wolves could seriously hurt you…” He warned in a quiet tone so the humans amongst them didn’t hear. Jesse twisted her mouth and looked away as she pulled her hood up on her jacket, but nodded her agreement. If she could just figure out why Adler had suddenly turned his sights on her in this way, calling her ‘his’ and being so blatantly aggressive and possessive, maybe she could do something to change his mind back again… .
