My heart almost jumped out of my body at the sight before my eyes. I ran, tripped on logs and got back up immediately.
I had to get to them. Asher had been in front of me the whole way but I pushed him aside. My knees hit the ground hard but I felt no pain, my body was numb. The only thing I could see was my two children covered in blood spatter from the dead squirrel above them.
They looked like they had been laid down for some sort of black magic ritual. If the aim was to scare me, then it would be considered a staggering success. I was shaken to the core.
Carefully picking my babies up, I cradled them to my chest to check for any injuries. I couldn't help the tears flowing down my cheeks thinking about how scared they must have been.
