" It better be good, max," I groaned, rubbing off the sleepiness from my eyes. I got wasted the previous night and had spent the night with Lara.
Max is my beta and is my friend, but to me he is my brother. I knew from his phone call that he had found something or maybe someone.
I glanced at the figure lying beside me. I cursed myself for sleeping with her. I got out of bed and walked to the balcony.
" We wouldn't have disturbed you if this wasn't important," he said, and I could almost see him smirking on the other side of the call.
" It's been a long time since you enjoyed yourself," he stated sarcastically.
" Max!" I warned him, not wanting him to beat around the bushes.
" Lara posted something in our circle and it is well known now in the whole community," he said.
" What?" I asked, rubbing the bridge of my nose. I know Lara is in love with me but I can't do anything about that. So she gets every chance she has to be with me. And I would not be surprised if she did something again this time.
" What's the matter max," I asked, changing the topic. I don't want to talk about her in the early morning.
" We found him," he said.
A low growl vibrated in my chest as I gripped at the railing of the balcony to control my anger. And not to forget, I am standing in human territory.
" Where?" I asked through gritted teeth.
" He has been informed that he is returning to his company," he said with a pause before continuing.
" I think they have found the reason, alpha," he said.
" Not while I am still breathing," I growled.
" Meet me at our usual place," I said before I hung up the phone.
I have been searching for him for decades now, since I heard about his family. I can't let him harm humans in any way. I felt adrenaline pumping through my veins. He has created enough trouble, now it is time to end everything.
Closing my eyes, I took a sharp intake of breath. The hollow eyes of that innocent girl still haunts me and it will forever. I couldn't save that pure soul.
With a sigh, I turned around and walked into the bedroom. I glanced at the bed and she was still sleeping. Taking the chance, I took a quick shower and changed into a clean set of clothes. I quickly made my way out not wanting to wake her up, knowing she would follow me all day and it was enough of a mistake that I slept with her in the first place.
" Where are you? Max asked through the link.
" On my way," I said.
As soon as I stepped out of the building, someone bumped into me, making my wolf stir in my head.
" Watch where are you going?" I said, as the hot coffee poured into my hand. It is not a big deal since I am a wolf, but right now I am thinking only about him and it is getting on my nerves.
I was angry enough already in the early morning. I was about to shout at the person who bumped into me, but as soon as I laid my eyes on the most beautiful creature in front of me, my breath caught in my throat.
She was about 5.ft 5.inches, with blue eyes and brown wavy hair. She was looking at me warily and I saw that her shirt was now drenched in coffee, making her inner clothes visible.
I felt rage as I thought how many people would see her like this. I didn't know where this possessiveness came from, but it makes no sense.
" I….. i….. I am sorry," she said in her little timid voice. Her voice felt like music to my ears.
" Hurry," Max's voice came through the link, making me forget my little fantasy that I was having.
I grabbed her by her forearm and pulled her aside before walking away. I wanted to ask her name. I wanted to spend some time with her but I wouldn't risk any more lives for that.
My steps faltered as soon as I heard her cursing me. I didn't think that such a pretty mouth could curse like that. It was both amusing and frustrating. I would have punished her if she was mine. I looked back at her to see her for one time but it made her scared. I didn't know if I would ever have the chance to meet her and with that I walked away.
I didn't know all the while Blake was looking at her through my eyes. It was weird for him, in a normal time he would have cursed the person or shouted at me for not looking where I was going.
I wondered what made him like this. I didn't ask him anything, knowing that he could hear my thoughts and he didn't say anything either and went silent.
I took long strides towards where that bastard had left, only to see Max was looking frantically here and there. Seeing him like that, I knew we lost him again.
" Max," I said in a low voice.
" I know I shouldn't say this but I think we lost him again," he said, sounding disappointed. We have all been working hard to find him aside from the pack matters. We are all tired of searching for just one person for so long.
" Why don't we go to his office?" He suggested. I shook my head at him, he already knew why he couldn't do that.
" We are right now in human territory. If he calls the police, we will be in trouble for accusing him of something without any proof," I said.
" Don't worry, if he returned from his hiding and found her, he would have to bring her to the core of the forest to do the act. We have been waiting for so long for him to appear. Now that he has shown up, we will catch him," I said to Max before turning to my car that was waiting alongside the road.
I was about to get in when I felt someone's eyes on me. My wolf went on full alert all of a sudden. I looked everywhere but couldn't see anyone suspicious.
Then I saw a lady at the corner of the building from our car. She was wearing a hoodie so that no one knew, but before I could make a move she vanished into thin air.
" A witch," Blake snarled in my head.
" What?" Max asked from the passenger seat of the car.
" Nothing," I said as I got in.
" Ask Hunter to increase the patrol inside the forest and at the border," I said as our car hit the road.
" Yes alpha," he said, nodding his head at me.
I sat there looking out of the window thinking about that girl. If I didn't have this matter in my hand i would have gone after her. My possessiveness towards her is overwhelming enough to make my heart yearn for her.
I shook my head and closed my eyes. Deep down my heart knew that I would meet her someday.
Adam
All the while at the hospital Bella kept looking out of the window without uttering a single word.
I shouldn't have been feeling this way but my heart was aching to see her like that.
" Bella," I called her name softly, not wanting to startle her.
"Huh," her voice was a mere whisper.
" We are here," I said.
She looked out of the window and nodded at her. I got out of the car and went to the passenger side to open the door for her.
As soon as she stepped out, she grabbed my hand, making my heart skip a beat. I held her hand tightly before leading her inside.
When she was talking to the receptionist, I took a glance at our intertwined hands and I felt that same tingling sensation come back again.
" Adam," Bella's sad voice made me snap out of my daze.
" They will allow only family members," she said,
" Go ahead," I said. She looked at me before she pulled her hand away from my hold and walked into the ICU.
I stood there looking at my hand. What if she was the one? I thought in my head. No, it's not possible and I know it better than anyone else.
" Don't be a coward," a familiar voice said. My head instantly snapped in the direction of the voice. I was shocked to see her here.
" What are you doing here," I asked, looking at the ICU door.
" I came here to remind you not to be a softhearted hero. This is our only chance," she said, looking at me, her eyes glowing red.
When I didn't respond to her, she continued.
" If you can't do that, I will do it and you know my ways of doing things, don't you?" And with that she turned around and walked away like nothing had happened. When the clicking sound of her heels faded, I walked towards the ICU to look at what Bella was doing.
For decades I have been waiting for this, but when I have everything right in front of me, my heart is in my way.
I looked at Bella from the round glass of the door. She was sitting on a stool crying silently while looking at her father. His face looked pale, which indicated he didn't have much time left.
Once she stood up, I walked back where I was earlier and waited for her to come out.
I took a few steps towards her and wiped the tears that rolled down from her eyes, looking at her dull eyes.
" What happened?" I asked. She stood there under my touch for a few minutes.
" Adam," she said, looking into my eyes.
" Yes, princess."
" I need to leave for at least a week," she said, her lips quivering.
" Why?" I asked softly. I wanted to let her know that I was there for her. She may not know me, but I have known her for a long time.
" I need to find someone to….. she trailed off.
" You can tell me, princess," I encouraged her to tell me.
" I… i…. My father doesn't have much time left; he is battling the last stage of blood cancer. And I need to find someone to marry. It's his…. His last wish," she said, as she broke down again.
What the f**k? My eyes went wide and my brain stopped working when realisation hit me like a truck, she was doing everything. Even this.
" Adam, I…. I… want to fulfil his last wish," she said, clutching my shirt. She hung her head crying silently.
" Bella?" I asked as I placed my finger under her chin, lifting her head to meet my eyes. She looked at me with her teary eyes.
" I know this sounds stupid and we don't know each other," I started, looking at her reaction.
" But I felt a connection with you from the moment we met," I told the truth.
" This is crazy. But will I be my bride?" I asked. She paled hearing the words coming out of my mouth.
" I …. I…. We… she stammered.
" You don't have to do this," she said as she shook her head at me.
" This is my problem," she added quietly.
" We don't know what kind of man you are going to marry. I think it is better to marry someone that you know. I am not claiming that you know me personally. But we can sign an agreement before our marriage. If that marriage doesn't work out within a year, we can get divorced," I said.
" Ok," she agreed. I looked at her for a few seconds to realise that she agreed. I didn't think she would agree so easily.
" Ok. After dropping you home, I need to do some preparation for our marriage. I hope that is OK with you?" I asked. She nodded at me with a sad smile playing on her lips.
