I walked into the kitchen the next morning and was surprised to see everyone up. Everyone but my parents were in their pajamas considering it was 8 in the morning. My father, Maddie and Jackson sat at the round breakfast table. My father reading the paper and Maddie and Jackson were eating oatmeal that my mother most likely prepared. The man who I was hoping to avoid was leaning against the counter smirking at me with his arms crossed as he waited for his coffee to pour next to him. I avoided his gaze and stood by my mother.
