Chapter 16: A Late Lunch
2:07 P.M.
Brett has not been paid to hang out on the island, but he insists. The handy young man prepares a pasta salad for lunch, ham and cheese sandwiches, and a tossed salad with an arrangement of dressings to choose from. The picnic is arranged on the rear deck. There are bowls filled with potato chips and an assortment of beverages.
Gillian and I arrive back at the cottage in good spirits, ready for a cool drink, whether it be alcoholic or not. Saul, Tom, Bernie, and Brett seem to be having a festive time on the deck. Saul is blitzed, just as I suspect he will be. Tom and Brett munch down sandwiches. The smell of pot hangs in the air, which tells me the quartet has been smoking, or at least a few of them have since they giggle like children at play.
