Chapter 6

Aaron's POV After a few hours in the air, Nina came over the intercom letting me know that we were making our final decent to our airport. Putting my laptop away, I fastened my seatbelt and watched out the window as the pack lands got closer and closer. The houses coming into better view, along with the people hurrying from building to building in the cold. Nina touched down very smoothly, and after a couple of minutes, I was exiting the plane and heading towards my truck parked in the lot nearby. The one good thing about Natasha was, even though she caused me to crash my truck, she fixed it more than perfectly, so I didn't have to. "That was about the only good thing she did. Remember being in that basement?" "Yeah, I try not to actually. She also took Mathew away, so we didn't have to deal with him. I wonder what happened to him once she left." "Hopefully she turned him into a slug and squished him." Cole was going to carry his anger towards Mathew for the rest of his life. He loved holding grudges. I, on the other hand, tried to let go of what he did to Sierra and me. She and I were both alive and happy, it didn't make sense to hold onto something we couldn't change. "That's because you're too levelheaded," Cole complained. "You do remember I was the one that got tortured, right?" "Yes, but I still remember what happened. You have no idea how hard it was being an Alpha wolf and not being able to do anything to stop him." "Is that why you're still so angry about it? Because it hurt your Alpha pride?" "Yes! And you should be too!" "Well, I'm not. I'm thankful we have a mate that's so strong and was able to rescue us." "I didn't say I didn't like Sierra and Brooklyn coming to save us. I just wish we could have fought back more." "I get it, but it's been over a year. It's time to let it go," I told him. Cole shrugged his shoulders, and I knew better than to keep this argument up. He would keep going until we were both blue in the face. Climbing into my grey truck, I threw my black leather bag into the passenger seat, put the key in the ignition and the engine roared to life. Throwing it into drive, I started towards the pack house. It was Friday, which meant Sierra didn't go into the office, so I was expecting to find her at home. "Caleb, I'm on my way to the pack house. Do you know where Sierra is?" "Welcome back man! She's at the office right now. She left around eight this morning." "She's at the office? But it's Friday, she doesn't normally go in on Friday." "She said there were two meetings she had to be present for. She said she was gonna try not to be there the entire day, and she's gonna join Justin and Austin for training later." "Oh, alright. I was looking forward to seeing her." "You could always go to the office and surprise her," he suggested. "Maybe I will once I unpack. I'm pulling into the parking garage now, come up to my apartment." "On my way." Once I was in the garage, I saw Sierra's blue sedan was in fact gone. Cole whimpered, knowing he was going to now have to wait even longer to see her. "It's okay, we'll go surprise her at the office in a little while." I climbed out of the truck, going to the passenger side to retrieve my bag. Taking the elevator to the main floor, the doors opened, and I saw Austin walking by. "Austin!" I called. "Alpha, it's nice to see you. How was your conference?" "It was good, pretty boring at times, but I got through it. How's everything been around here?" "Pretty quiet. Caleb is walking on eggshells around Danny but that's to be expected." "I'm sure she's been scaring all the omegas around here." "It's definitely been interesting," he laughed. "Caleb said you're training with Sierra later?" "Yeah, care to join us? We never get tired of watching her kick your a**." He laughed again and I shook my head. "She'd love to hear you say that. I've gotta go unpack and Caleb is waiting for me up there, but I'll see you later." "Yeah, sounds good." We went our separate ways, and I rode the elevator up to the Alpha floor on top. Opening the door to my apartment, I saw Caleb sprawled out on our couch watching TV. "How long have you been here?" I asked. "A couple of minutes," he stood up and I watched chip crumbs fall from his lap onto the carpet, the bag in his hand. "Oops," he said, bending down to pick them up. "Our Beta, ladies and gentlemen," Cole joked, presenting his paws. "How were things while I was gone?" I asked, walking into our bedroom to unpack. "Good, pretty quiet. We did a lot of training, anything to keep out of Danny's warpath." "How's she doing?" "Good I think, she's scary honestly." I laughed at him, as I took the clean clothes from my bag into the closet. "Just imagine that adorable little girl with her mother's attitude. You're about to be outnumbered." "Don't I know it. When are you and Sierra gonna have a pup?" he asked, flopping down on the lounge chair Sierra had added to the closet. "Ours is gonna need a playmate." "I don't know. I brought it up to her last night, but she didn't seem too into the idea right now." "She's still young man, give her some time. For now, just practice all you can." "Does anything not inappropriate ever come out of his mouth?" Cole said. "I think we have that covered," I told him with side eye. "Just imagine, we'd have a primordial wolf as the future Alpha of this pack." Caleb got a far-off look in his eyes, thinking about our future child. I have to admit, the idea of that was exciting. "Plus, if you guys have kids soon, we can continue our tradition of kids being best friends." He flashed me a smile. I knew he was only trying to poke fun at me, but something about how my conversation with Sierra went the other night, made me feel a certain way. I didn't know why though. "I think I'm gonna go surprise Sierra at the office with some flowers or something," I told him to change the subject and break the tension I was feeling. "She'd love that. I should probably go find Justin and help with the new warrior training." "Are they coming along any better?" "Some, Sierra offered to come help and maybe seeing their Luna kick their Alpha's a** would light a fire under them." Caleb opened his mouth to keep talking but froze mid word. A look of terror spread over his face, and I wasn't sure he was breathing. "Caleb, what's the matter?" I asked, walking towards him. Still, he didn't answer. "Is he stuck like that?" Cole asked. "Caleb!" I yelled, shaking him slightly. He finally blinked and exhaled, focusing his gaze on me. "What's happening?" "Danny.... She's in labor....." Caleb looked as if he might faint from surprise. "Holy sh*t! Did she just mind link you?" "Yeah.... Maria's taking her to the hospital." "Okay, let's go. Let's meet them there." I started walking from the closet, but quickly realized Caleb wasn't following me. "Um, are you coming?" He just stood rooted on the stop, his mouth hanging open. "Caleb! Let's go!" "I think this is more of a best friend moment, than an Alpha moment," Cold told me. He seemed to be right, so I went back into the closet and stood right in front of him. "Caleb, look at me." His eyes flashed up to meet mine. "This is a good thing; this is an amazing thing. You guys have wanted this for so long. You're going to make an amazing father to your little girl. I know you can do this." "You think so? It's just crazy, it's actually happening." "I've known you since we were pups, you're going to do a great job. But you know who can't do this alone?" He looked confused by my question. "Danny can't do this alone. She needs you, so we need to go." "Sh*t, you're right!" He tore out of my closet and out of my apartment with myself right on his heels. The fear forgotten, now only driven by the need to help his mate. "We need to let Sierra know what's happening!" Cole yelled. "I'll send her a text when we get to the hospital." Caleb and I ran as fast as we could to the hospital. I didn't know how much of a head start Maria and Danny had. Flying through the doors of the hospital, we didn't have to guess where to go because we heard Danny yelling. Running into her room, she was being helped into a bed by Dr. Kinsley and one of the nurses, Colin. "Danny, I'm here!" Caleb yelled, going over to her bedside. "It's about time assh*le!" He kissed her forehead and she relaxed into the pillows. Dr. Kinsley began hooking her up to different machines, some for her and some for the pup. "Have you told Sierra yet?" Maria asked quietly. "I'm about to send her a text," I let her know. "If everyone could please clear the room except for Beta Caleb and Beta Danny, please," Dr. Kinsley said. "Let us know if you need anything," Maria said. "I'll have Sierra here soon," I reassured her. "Thanks, Aaron," she breathed clearly in pain. I hoped Sierra wasn't too busy and would be able to get here soon to support Danny.
