Chapter 5

CHAPTER 5 She tried pulling up a fake smile as she took the pen from Byron. Sighing, she pushed her upper unwilling body forward, bending over to sign the paper that would seal her fate to Byron for God knows how long. The only comfort she got was that there was no possible touch to her already broken heart. Being married to Byron meant no emotional entanglement and that was exactly she needed; detachment from men.   Slowly her hand moved over the blank space, her signature inking its way over it. Once she was done, the magistrate announced them married. Almost immediately the magistrate left, leaving the five people in the main living room. Finally Juliet let her gaze meet the Powers family standing alongside Vicky.   “Now how about a picture of the new couple?” Vicky cooed, already reaching for her phone from her purse.   “Not now Vicky,” Juliet stated as she fiddled with the large diamond ring on her finger. In truth, just the size of it was making her uncomfortable but then again, this was the Powers family who would gladly pour cash for anything that would make them feel superior.   “Can we leave now?” Byron finally cut through the silence. He was not the least happy about the entire ordeal and being forced to marry the same woman who had turned down his advances was probably the worst mistake he’d ever done in his entire life.   “Of course son. I’m so proud of you,” His father pulled him into a hug, patting his back.   Byron grunted and once his father let him go, he stormed outside with Juliet following him. He was already in his Lamborghini about to drive off.   “I don’t have my car with me,” she announced as she knocked on his window, making him roll it down.   “And why are you telling me?”   “Because I obviously need a ride home,” Was he that stupid or just acting up to piss her off?   “Well you can always take a taxi or a bus. You obviously know where I live,” he revved the engine then poked his head out at her,” By the way just to let you know, getting married to me was a bad idea,” and with that he drove off.   “What the f**k Byron?” she screamed at the disappearing car.   Cussing, she stomped on the ground. They were married for less than five minutes and that was how that douchebag behaved? Well, he had just started a war with her and she didn’t care any less that it was a fake marriage. Someone needed to put that rich, spoilt brat in his place and she would be the one to do it.   “Why are you still here? I thought you’d have left with Byron,” Vicky questioned as she stepped out of the house.   “Well, my husband needs some lessons and I’m going to teach them to him. So how about you drive me there?”   “Of course,”   The drive to Byron’s house proved to be longer than she had anticipated. Maybe it was the rush of anger bubbling its way inside her intestines. His mansion was slightly less lavish than his parents’ house but she didn’t care for one bit.   “So you are going to text me later?” Vicky questioned.   “Yeah. I will,” she answered with a half-smile.   She the Merc drive off before she walked up to the front door. Thankfully this one had a doorbell and after a few impatient rings, Byron finally opened the door, completely shirtless with his toned abs a feast to her eyes. For a few strokes of a second, she found herself distracted, devouring on his body like some home driven teenage girl. She must have stared too long and it was only later that she realized he had been speaking.   “What?” she questioned, immediately hating herself. Why did he have to work out and get abs like those?   “I said, guess who finally managed to find her way home?” His upper lip was pulled into an arrogant smirk.   “We need to talk Byron,” she said, completely ignoring his statement.   “About what?” he asked.   She pushed past him, walking into the magnificent house with Byron following her with his palms deep in his slacks pockets.   “Listen, none of us want to be in this marriage and you are lucky you are gay because I would not have gotten married to you. Let’s get one thing straight though, you bring your men in here just let me know first. I obviously cannot stand your arrogant attitude but we are in this fake marriage together which means that somehow we need to put up with each other,” she stated with a tone finalty.
