‘Good to see you, too, Bernadette.’ Bernadette giggled. ‘Sorry, Mattie. Me and my bluntness! So are you going to let me in?’ Not bothering to hide his displeasure, he drifted away from the door and gestured, half-heartedly, for her to step in. She marched into the lounge room, placed the envelope on one of the unpainted chests of drawers and said in an amused voice, ‘What about me?’ ‘What do you mean, what about you?’ Hadn’t he already given her half his inheritance? She bowed her head and pointed to the skirt of her lolly-bright suit.
