It was misty and cool that morning, as it often was in spring in Arcata. Whereas Logan and Zeff’s hometown Fortuna was a working-class town, Arcata was in the center of the w**d-growing country, and home of Humboldt State University. This morning Beanheads, the most popular coffee shop in town, was buzzing with young and old. Zeff, Brian, and Logan had been up all night celebrating the victory with the leaders of the north country Earth First! chapter, Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney. Judi’s fiddle case hung over her shoulder, and Darryl had his guitar. They were on the way to do a concert at Humboldt State to recruit for Redwood Summer.
