RUTH point at the door when she saw Becca. The tall woman made a warning knock before entering the private office of the marketing director.
She was startled when she saw Mira. The big boss was the one sitting comfortably behind the chair of the marketing director. Janessa was nowhere in sight.
Before Becca could utter a word, Ruth entered with a cup of coffee. The secretary put it on top of the table.
“Coffee, Ms. Jackman?”
“Don’t bother, Ruth. She’s done.”
Janessa’s secretary sent her a knowing look before mouthing ‘Good luck.’ The boss and her were left inside the office.
Becca heaved a sigh but remained standing. On the other hand, Mira stared at her while sipping her black coffee.
“Is there anything you need, Miss Doue?” She asked when a couple of minutes passed by already but the other woman did not utter a single word.
Mira looked at her from head to toe. Her face heated knowing that her mate is openly checking her out. Lucy is having a field day in her head that her head starts to hurt. She message her temple to lessen the pain she felt.
Earlier, when she returned to the office after the fifteen-minute break, she found another sticky note on top of her laptop. The note states that she has to report at the marketing director’s office.
Upon seeing Mira she realized that this post-it note is becoming a habit for the big boss.
“How tall are you, Ms. Jackman?”
“Five foot, nine inches, Ms. Doue.”
Becca wanted to stand snappy and put her hands on her back like a soldier when she answered. This felt like an interview for incoming warrior. Though Becca did not underwent an interview like that in the pack when she starts volunteering for patrol.
“What’s your position in the pack?”
‘Answer it. She wanted to know about us.’ Lucy told her. Her wolf is acting like a teenager whenever Mira is with them.
“Just a regular member, Ms. Doue.”
“Oh?”
“Anything else, Ms. Doue?” She looked up and meet the boss’ eyes.
She finally noticed that Mira put her hair into a messy bun. She place pearled pins on top of her hair. Her eyes gazed at the junction of her mate’s neck.
She unconsciously swallowed when she imagine Mira wearing the mark she would leave in that part of her body when they completed the mating process.
Mira would wear a mark that shows that the bearer is the mate of Becca Jackman. A mark that declares that the bearer is mated and forever destined to a Becca Jackman.
“Would you like to tell me what’s on your mind, warrior?”
Like a deer caught on a headlight, she faked a cough to compose herself. She shook her head.
“I’m no longer a warrior, Ms. Doue.”
“Tell me about it.”
They both turned to the door when it suddenly opens. Janessa entered the office and looked at them. Both her eyebrows raised when she found her aunt and account manager in her office.
“What are you doing here, Aunt Mira?”
“I own the company, little miss.”
“Between the three of us, you’re the one who’s little, old woman.”
“Be careful, Janessa. I might change my mind.”
The marketing director glared at her Aunt. “You love having the time for yourself, woman. That was the main reason why you want me here in the company.”
“That’s correct.”
Mira stood up after she said that. She made a beeline towards Becca.
The tall woman realized that her mate only reached her chin. At this distance, Lucy wanted to grab Mira and sniff her mate.
“You’re tall.”
“Aunt Mira!”
“What?”
“Stop flirting in my office. Besides, I didn’t know that you swing that way.”
“Shut up, Janessa.”
The young woman reclaimed her table after glaring at her Aunt. She opened the folder on top of the accumulating documents on the table.
“If you’re done with Becca, please let her do her job.” Janessa stated without glancing at them.
Mira grabbed the tall woman’s arm and pulled her out of the marketing director’s office. Becca was forced to tag along with her.
She bath herself with the feeling of their skin touching. The sparks sizzled where their skin made contact.
They end up at the Starbucks coffee shop outside the office building. Mira ordered for them but Becca paid for their dues.
The petite woman chose the table at the far corner of the shop. It was good for two persons. At this time of the day, there were only two other customers inside.
“I love black coffee.” Mira started when they both have their drinks.
“I noticed.”
“Do you like girls?”
Instead of indulging her mate with an answer, Becca sip the coffee that Mira chose for her. It tasted bitter compared to the coffee she used to. She poured another packet of sugar.
“Are you afraid of me?”
“Yes.”
Sadness passed her blue eyes but Mira hide it by sipping her black coffee. “Why?”
“Because you’re the epitome of something that I lost once.”
“W-what?”
She sent her a smile instead of responding to the question. Frown marred Mira’s beautiful face.
“You had a girlfriend before?” Becca shook her head. “Then what?”
“Are you done with your coffee?” Mira’s frown deepened when she dodge the question. “I need to get back to the office.”
Becca sighed. Instead of answering her question, the petite woman leaned back on the chair and looked outside the glass window. Her arms across her middle.
‘Lucy, you have a competition with the prima donna act.’
‘You should tell her. She would think of the worse.’
‘Not today, buddy.’
“Is this about that woman?”
It was Becca who frown this time. She and her wolf’s conversation halted.
“What woman?”
“I saw you at the cafeteria. You’re with a woman. You’re having a drink with her.” Mira disclosed in a soft voice.
Her mate is still looking out the window. Sadness visible in her beautiful face.
“She’s a colleague. She works in HR department.”
“She’s flirting with you.”
Becca sighed again. “She’s a colleague, alright.”
Becca turned to her. She has this fierce look in her face. “Let her know that, Jackman. Or else, she’ll have her last pay check by the end of the month.”
Scratching her nape, Becca followed her boss outside the coffee shop. Mira stood up after she laid down her last statement.
Becca wonders how old her mate is. She acts like a teenager.
