Chapter ThreeSeated in the front of the Phuri Dai’s caravan, Valda felt wildly excited as the procession of caravans moved slowly along the dusty road. On either side the red earth of Provence showed beneath the olive groves, silver-green under the rising sun and the grey bare limestone rocks that protruded like strange primordial tombstones above the red of the plains. Poppies, lavender, wild thyme and yellow gorse lined the road and the almond trees were pink and white against the blue sky. It was so beautiful that Valda felt that she was walking into a fairy tale, which was all a part of her adventure.
