Isabella Torres is a typical 16-year-old teenager. She has lived all her life in the city, so when her family relocated to the small town of Guerrero, she was devastated and tried to stop the move. She hated the small town, including the house that they moved in, her new school, and especially the people. The residents of the town just seem really weird.

Everything changed when Isabella met the mysterious young man Nikolas. He's gorgeous and seems to attract most of the female students in their school. When he started paying attention to Isabella, their moving to the small town didn't seem such a bad idea anymore.

When Isabella learned about Nikolas' secret, she was so shaken that she asked her mother to leave town. However, it turns out that her mother is keeping a secret too.

What will Isabella and Nikolas' fate be, and what is the secret lurking in the small town of Guerrero?

Chapter 1: Leaving The City
❤ Isabella’s POV ❤ AS we drove away from the city, I can’t help but cry. I am leaving not just the house that I grew up in, but also the city where I was born, and all the friends I have made. It was particularly hard for me to say goodbye to my friends in school since I have known most of them all my life. I was a good student, and I’m on the honor roll. Aside from that, I’m the President of the 9th-grade class, and was a member of the cheerleading squad. I was supposed to take over as the captain of the cheerleading squad, but with me leaving, they had to pick someone else. We were kicked out of the house by my dad after my mom confronted him for cheating on her. She discovered the infidelity when my dad’s mistress sent my mom and picture of her sonogram. As it turns out, my dad has been cheating on my mom with one of his officemates. They’ve been sleeping together for almost a year now and got her pregnant. My mom begged my dad not to kick us out since we had nowhere to go, but it fell on deaf ears. My dad said that me and my little sister Angelica can stay in the house if we want to stay with my dad. I immediately said “No!” I don’t want to stay with the man who cheated on my mom and had the audacity to blame her for it. Apparently, my dad told my mom that he was not attracted to her anymore because she let herself go. Aside from doing all the housework and taking care of the kids, my mom works part-time as a waitress. My dad has a good job, and he takes care of the household expenses, but he doesn’t give my mom any spending money. There are times that my mom wanted to buy something for herself but she couldn’t, because she doesn’t have any money. I tried to help my mother out with the housework, but she didn’t want to take any time away from my studies and extra-curricular activities, so she refused. I keep my room clean and help my little sister Angelica, keep her room tidy just to help her out a little. When we left the house, I initially thought that we would be renting an apartment in the city. When my mom told me that we would be moving somewhere else, I almost wanted to stay with my dad in the city. My mom cried as she talked to me and when she said that she couldn’t bear to stay in the same city as my dad and her mistress. She said that she might kill herself if she saw them together. So with a heavy heart, I said goodbye to my friends and the city. My sister and I are sitting next to each other in the backseat, and when she saw me crying, she moved closer to me and hugged me. I am sixteen years old, and my sister is seven years younger than me, but sometimes, she acts older than me. Angelica: “Ate Isabelle, don’t cry. You’re awesome and you’ll make new friends.” I smiled at my sister and said “Thank you. You’re an angel.” Angelica: “I know. That’s why my name is Angelica.” We both chuckled and I wiped my tears off. My sister soon fell asleep while leaning on me. My mom looked at me through the rearview mirror and asked “Are you okay, honey?” I smiled and said “Yes, mom. I’ll be okay.” I tried to be positive and hold on to what my sister said. I will make new friends, and I plan to stay in touch with my old friends anyway. Thank heavens we have internet and we could do video chats now. --------------------------------------------- We arrived at the small town of Guerrero after almost four hours of driving. We stopped by a McDonald’s before making the long drive, but it was a few minutes before lunch, and I am already hungry. My mom looked at us and said “Would you guys like to have lunch first before heading to the house?” Angelica: “Yes! Can we have fried chicken?” My mom chuckled and said “Sure. Let’s try to find a restaurant that serves fried chicken.” As we slowly drove through the small town, I tried to keep an open mind. However, the further inside we go, I couldn’t help but hate it. There don’t seem to be a lot of establishments around, and most of them look outdated. I let out a sigh and said “Are there even restaurants here?” Erlinda: “There’s one.” I looked at where my mom was pointing and saw what appears to be a dilapidated structure. The only indication that it’s actually a restaurant, is the signage on top that says ‘Restaurant.’ My mom parked in front of the restaurant. I almost did not want to get out of the car, but my sister was so eager to get out that eventually got out too. I took my sister’s hand and followed my mom as she made her way into the restaurant. As my mom opened the door, everyone in the restaurant stared at us. I know that we are new and town and they are curious as to who we are and what we are doing here. When my mom raised and hand and said “Háu kola,” everyone stopped looking at us and resumed what they were doing. We found a table to sit in, and a waitress came over to hand us a menu. My mom got two orders of fried chicken for herself and my sister. I suddenly lost my appetite and just chose to have a tuna sandwich and a coke. When the waitress left, I asked my mom “What was it that you said earlier?” Erlinda: “That was hello.” Isabella: “What language was that?” Erlinda: “Native American, I believe.” Isabella: “I didn’t know you spoke Native American.” Erlinda: “I don’t. That’s all I know. My stepfather taught me that.” The waitress served us our drinks and after she left, I asked “Why are we here, mom? Do you really need to be this far away from dad?” Erlinda: “Well, I used to live here. When my father passed away, my mom remarried my stepfather Mingan. He took care of me even after my mom died. When he passed away, he left me his house, and that is where we’ll be staying.” Isabella: “How long are we staying here?” Erlinda: “Well, I don’t know. Let’s take it one step at a time, honey.” I sighed as I realized that I don’t really have a choice and that my mom is in control of my fate. I want to be open-minded, but everything I’ve seen in this town so far sucks. The people seem weird too. I noticed them glancing at our table every now and then. After we finished our food, my sister and I made our way out of the restaurant while my mom settled the bill. I looked around the town once more and sighed once more as every establishment looks very depressing. How could I endure living in this town? When we were living in the city, I would always go to the mall on the weekends and hang out with my friends. We would sometimes go to the movies, shop, or go to the arcade. One time, we even went to the club and used fake IDs to get in. I don’t even think this small town has a mall. I wonder what people do here for fun. My attention was caught by a group of males talking loudly on the other side of the road. Based on their behavior, I’d say they’re about my age, but they are all so tall and muscular that they look older. The tallest male in the group caught my attention, and when I caught a glimpse of his face, my heart suddenly beat really fast. I couldn’t really see his entire face because he’s turned to the side, but his side profile looks good. One could tell that he is very handsome. I put my hand on my chest and tried to calm my heart down. When the handsome male looked at me, I gasped and turned my head. I hope he didn’t catch me staring at him. I turned my head slowly and hoped that he wasn’t looking at me anymore, but he still was. I was about to turn my head again when he smiled at me. I kept looking at him because I couldn’t believe that such a good-looking man exists. His eyes are so sensuous and mysterious, and somehow, I can’t stop looking at him. I turned my head when my mom got out of the restaurant and called me to get into the car. When I looked back at the mysterious man, he already walked away with his companions. I almost wanted to run after him, but my mom called me again and implored me to get in the car again. As we drove away from the restaurant, I turned and tried to catch another glimpse of the man. As I turned around once more, I couldn’t help but smile. This town might not be so bad, after all.
