All of the warriors were gathered, the women and kids were hidden deep inside the pack house with some other guards to secure them. After hearing that a powerful enemy has invaded their lands, everyone became scared. After all, it wasn't a new thing for packs to be attacked. The strength of the Alpha and his warriors were constantly tested by others. If the Alpha and his pack are not powerful enough to withstand the attack, then they'll be killed and the Alpha will have to step down for another. That was how this world works. Only the powerful rules.
Mira stood in front of the warriors and went through the plan with them. Well, women weren't really allowed to fight or join the warriors but Mira was an exception. She was skilled in almost everything which made the people respect her even more.
"Okay, let's get going. You have to make sure to look out for each other." Mira told them and they all nodded in unison.
"There's one more person joining us." Mira saw Jason's beta step forward with a blue haired girl following at his back.
Eli?
Mira pursed her lips without saying anything. She gave Andy a questioning look.
"She wanted to join us. She's quite skilled too you know. Just this one time, luna. Let her tag along."
Mira wanted to scoff at his act. She hasn't even said anything about refusing yet he was already speaking like this. She remembered this scene too well. She had refused to let Eli tag along on this day but Jason came forward, using his authority, he gave her permission but this time, it wasn't going to be like that.
Mira put on an expressionless mask, "It's okay to join. We need more people anyway, just try not to get hurt later on."
With that, they started their journey to where the intruders were reported to be hidden while Andy went back to his Alpha and they splitted with the warriors so that they could have a surprise advantage.
But instead of going straight for the base, Mira took a corner towards the blood forest.
She remembered how they were tricked in her previous life making them to lose most of their members. She wasn't going to make that mistake again. The enemies weren't hidden at the base as the spies had said but instead were hidden in the blood forest where no one would have thought of.
"Luna, that's not the way." Eli's small voice came from behind her making her hault in her steps and turn to look at her.
"Didn't Andy teach you anything? You're among my warriors right now and so, you're not allowed to question any of my actions. Just follow." Mira watched with an internal smug smile as Eli's face suddenly looked as if she wanted to cry.
Yeah, in front of hard trained soldiers, she made the mistake of showing weakness with only a scolding from her. Her eyes were already brimming with tears which made the warriors starting to give her disdainful looks.
Everyone knew this simple rule. Getting scolded isn't inevitable no matter your rank. If you were going to fight then you needed to be stronger than that. Eli has been used to acting as the weak girl that before she realized this fact, it was already late.
She quickly bowed her head and said, "Yes, luna."
"Good." Mira turned around and they continued their journey.
It was extremely silent in the blood forest, apart from the sounds of crickets, there was nothing else which made Mira starting to question her decision. Wondering if she made a mistake.
She sniffed the air but couldn't smell even a soul nearby. What could be wrong? She remembered clearly this was were they camped.
Mira had an ominous feeling as she looked around. Not much people have the ability of hiding their scent so that was out. Her brows furrowed noticing something and her expression turned to that of horror as she shouted, "Attack!"
Almost immediately, figures jumped down from the trees and quickly surrounded them while Mira started to give them orders.
"Group three, attack from the left!" She ordered feeling that something was strange.
This people were much more powerful than them but for some reasons they were holding back. They didn't look like they were here to attack them which made her puzzled.
Her eyes found Eli who was tackling an opponent skillfully which didn't surprise her much anyway. What she needed to do was to be on guard against her. She shouldn't let her come close to her at all. But as they fought and Mira continued to distance herself, an intoxicating scent suddenly made its way into her nostrils making her still as her eyes searched around in the darkness. She felt her wolf stir inside her, excited.
Her legs started to move, following the sweet scent that invaded her senses and made her unable to think properly. She couldn't believe it, at this time in her previous life nothing like this happened. Although they were in a different location. Only a true mate's scent is able to have such effect on her.
It meant that he was close by. Her mate.
Mira tried to control herself, she whispered to her wolf who was getting way too excited 'calm down, Leia. We'll find him.'
As she went further into the forest, the scent of blood entered her nostrils making her frown. At thesame time, the scent of her mate became stronger. She wondered if he was injured and maybe he was among this people they ambushed today?
Mira stopped when she saw a big black wolf run out of a corner with a person on its back. Her eyes widened as her wolf whispered 'Mate' in her head.
Without thinking at all, she transformed, letting her wolf, Leia, take over, she gave chase immediately but the black wolf was so fast that she could not keep up and soon lost them.
Mira frowned and stopped when she noticed that she was far away from her people and deep inside this forest that was so mysterious to everyone.
A low growl from behind her confirmed her fears, her hairs stood on edge as she slowly turned around still in her wolf form. She met three red eyes of wolves looking at her with a gaze that held no good.
Rogues?
She took a step back as the big wolves advanced closer. They looked so intimidating making her feel small and weak. Right there, Mira knew there was no getting out of this one. She didn't even stand a chance against this wolves so she didn't even bother trying and moved to run but one of them quickly blocked her as if he anticipated her move.
'I need help.' Mira mindlinked one of the warriors even though she knew it was hopeless. She stared at the wolves circling her like a prey and gritted her teeth.
One of them suddenly lunged towards her. She saw it coming so she readied herself to jump out of the way but another wolf...
A big black wolf appeared which she recognized as the one she had been chasing jumped on the other and within minutes, the painful howls and growls of the three rogue wolves were the only sound that could be heard.
Mira watched in shock as the other wolf transformed back to his human self, quickly putting on his clothes. He flashed her a smile which only made Mira take another cautious step back.
Although, he just saved her by killing these wolves but damn! He was even more dangerous okay. Mira didn't know how but she found herself also shifting back even against her will.
What was Leia doing?
"Ah, its a pretty brown haired woman?" He looked amused and stepped closer to her.
Mira wanted to ask, "where is he? Her mate." But she changed her mind. After all she didn't know this man. If Jason finds out that she found her mate, it wouldn't be good.
The question was 'why did he come back?" But she didn't ask that either. Instead, she just stared at him silently and after a while of staring like that, her mouth opened and moved "Which pack do you belong to?" She asked the real thing that has been bugging her mind ever since they arrived here. The scent they had on them was just... Very different, unique and powerful. It made her curious.
"You don't need to know, pretty lady."
"I won't be seeing you again so there's no harm in it. Why not tell me?" Mira persuaded.
Now that he was refusing only made her want to know more. Was it some kind of secret pack?
