Stunned, she remained silent. He went across the room and picked up her bag from the side table. He took out her purse. He rifled through her credit cards and threw them all on the bed. He took out the banknotes and sifted through them. He put a twenty-pound note back in the purse, then tossed the remainder on the bed with the cards. He turned to her. “You are to go downstairs to the hotel bar. You will not come back up again until you have made a hundred pounds. There is only one way a woman can make that kind of money this time of night. I’ve left you a small amount of cash in case you have to buy the first drink yourself. I will wait up for you.
