Chaos POV
I felt it the moment something was wrong. I sensed her panic, a tight knot in my chest as if it were my own. Not only that, but I could also tell she was closed off, isolated from everything and everyone. After the conversation with her mother, I knew Skeye feared being trapped in confined spaces. Almost instantly after feeling that something was off, Kali announced that Skye was missing. She had teleported, breaking the cuffs that were meant to restrain her. Her power was too strong for them.
Taking several deep breaths, I tried to remain calm. Blade was restless, but we couldn't afford to lose control, especially now. We had to find Skye, and we had to establish a connection with her. Those were our top two priorities. "We need to find Skye's location and change our course to head there," I said to everyone in our group, and they all agreed.
Barys, ordered a few dragons to scan the realm and see if they could pick up on Skye's scent. Meanwhile, Aria offered her assistance. "If you can link with Skye and she can explain her surroundings, I may be able to determine where she is," she suggested
. Grateful for her support, I nodded. "Thank you, I will try."
I focused on my link with Skye, but it felt like there was an impenetrable wall blocking our communication.
"I'll create a temporary barrier around us so you can relax and concentrate," Aria said. I expressed my gratitude as I sat against a tree, giving myself some space and silence. It was crucial that I reached Skye, and finally, I felt her mark on me glowing.
Blade sensed her presence and became insistent she could hear us. I could feel Skye calming down slightly. Although I couldn't hear her right now, I was determined to do everything in my power to help her relax and let her know that I was coming, no matter what. As she started to calm down, a sense of relief washed over me.
The mark on my wrist continued to glow brightly as Aria approached me. "You can't hear her, can you?" she asked, and I shook my head. "Can I try and help?" she offered.
"Yes," I replied.
"Put your other hand on her mark and concentrate on your bond with her," Aria instructed, her voice calm but urgent. I followed her instructions, placing my hand on Skye's mark and closing my eyes. Gradually, a rush of images flooded my mind, filling my senses with vivid details.
I spoke aloud, my voice trembling, so that everyone could help me piece together the puzzle. "She is on a beach."
Barys confirmed my words, his tone filled with concern. "The ocean? Why would she go there? It's several hours away if we fly."
Confusion clouded my mind as I tried to make sense of it. "I don't understand. We didn't find any keys near an ocean. There must be a reason. I'll try to pick up on every important detail."
As I focused, the ocean grew closer in my mind's eye. Skye stood at the water's edge, the gentle spray of the waves lightly touching her skin. My heart skipped a beat as fear gripped me when she ventured further, allowing a wave to engulf her.
"SKYE!" I yelled through our bond, desperation lacing my voice. "She went into the ocean, she's underwater!"
"she did what?" Kali blurted out.. Panic clenched my chest, causing it to tighten as the world around me grew dim. The air felt heavy, suffocating.
"Please, Skye, swim to the surface. I can sense your struggle. You can't breathe," I pleaded desperately, my hand instinctively reaching for my burning chest. Suddenly, my connection with Skye vanished, leaving me on the verge of breaking down. The only solace was the faint feeling that she was still alive.
"If she went into the water, maybe the key was there," Sage, her grandmother, suggested, her voice filled with concern.
Zane chimed in, adding, "I don't think she would go without a reason."
I pressed my hand firmly against my chest, taking in deep breaths, trying to calm myself. I remembered how Skye had mentioned that I helped her breathe in the cave. The memory offered a sliver of hope.
"Based on our initial searches, there was no activity near the ocean, so we should be safe traveling there," Barys informed the group. "I have a few invisibility potions, but they're limited. We'll only use them if absolutely necessary."
"Invisibility," I questioned, my voice filled with curiosity.
"Yes, I have a few potions," Barys replied.
"I would have offered to use them to get into the dragon kingdom, but our barrier is set up to detect them, and that would have given us away." Barys explained. He then commanded the dragons to return, and we all prepared to head towards the ocean.
"Keep focusing on your bond with Skye," Barys advised, his voice firm. "We need to try to pinpoint her exact location, especially if she went underwater. I doubt she will stay submerged for long unless she has some sort of assistance." Barys' words were laced with concern.
"Magic?" Zane inquired, curiosity evident in his voice.
"I was thinking more along the lines of mermaids," Barys replied. "Although they are not typically inclined to help, they can be violent creatures."
"They are dangerous," I interjected, my voice filled with worry. The thought of a mermaid possibly luring Skye out into the water troubled me. "I've heard stories about them in prison."
"Sye, I love you," I pleaded with her in my mind. "Whatever is going on right now, you need to stay strong for me. Please, you have to survive for us."
I closed my eyes, and a strange sensation washed over me. It felt as if the water of the ocean Skye was in was caressing my skin. As I focused on our bond, I sensed Skye's struggle, but I also felt her fighting spirit. She was brave, refusing to let fear cloud her judgment. I couldn't help but feel proud of her, proud to call her my mate. Right now, she wasn't just fighting for her own survival; she was fighting for both of us. And I was determined to do the same.
"We will find her," Kali said firmly, as she stood beside me. The dragons returned, their powerful wings beating against the wind. As those of us who couldn't fly climbed onto their backs, we took off towards the ocean.
Once in the air, the sensation of flight enveloped me, a strange and exhilarating feeling I never thought I would experience. I couldn't help but gaze out at the mountains, their peaks shrouded in mist. A peculiar connection stirred within me, perhaps because of my lineage with the demon clan. But I knew I had to resist their dark influence; my purpose was to protect, not harm.
Throughout the journey, I reached out to Skye, her presence faint but reassuringly alive. I spoke to her, my words filled with love and encouragement. I shared stories of my past in the lycan realm, recounting moments of joy and the rigorous training that shaped me into the warrior I had become. It was crucial to keep our connection strong even if she could not respond.
Finally, we reached the ocean, the vast expanse stretching out before us. As I breathed in the salty air, a faint trace of Skye's scent teased my senses. It was barely there, but it ignited a flicker of hope within me.
"I sense a really strong barrier nearby," Aria informed us. "But not just that, I can feel a portal within this realm near it as well, so we must remain cautious."
"Can you sense where the portal leads?" Zane asked.
"No, but I sense a negative energy, so I would assume the enemy opened it," Aria responded
"Where is the barrier?" I asked, my senses unable to detect it.
“I will lead everyone," Aria said confidently.
"Mate is near yet far," Blade's voice echoed in my mind.
"I feel it. Her body is cold, as if she is battling something within her mind. I don't think our voice can reach her any longer," he continued, his concern evident.
"We have to keep trying. We will find a way to reach her," I reassured him.
As we walked along the beach, Aria chanted a fae spell, her voice melodic, as she placed her hand on a large boulder. Suddenly, the boulder shifted, revealing another section of the beach. However, our glimpse was fleeting, as the area vanished again.
"The barrier protecting this area is strong. I'm afraid the only way to break it is from inside," Aria explained.
I placed my hand on the rock, and a surge of energy coursed through my body. I knew Skye was trapped within.
"What about the ocean? Is it blocked off as well?" I asked, my senses still searching for any sign of Skye in the water.
"I'm afraid it is. A small section of the ocean is also blocked," Aria responded, her voice filled with regret.
I walked along the water's edge, "I can feel it," Blade growled, his voice filled my mind. "She is out there, and she needs us." I couldn't help but agree. "I feel it too," I admitted, my voice tinged with worry.
Turning to Aria, I asked, "As a water fae, can you breathe underwater?" She nodded. "For a longer period than normal, but not like a mermaid. However, I do know spells that can help." I gazed out at the ocean, momentarily lost in thought.
Suddenly, a peculiar scent caught my attention, and I wasn't the only one. Zane and Alex both turned their heads in the same direction. The air seemed to crackle with an electric charge. "It's dark fae magic," Barys informed us. "We must be on high alert. I have no idea what they are planning."
Zane inquired, "Do you sense any nearby?"
Barys shook his head. "No, but if there's a portal, they could have easily cast it through that."
As I pondered the situation, Sage, Skye's grandmother, approached me. "The scent is affecting you," she observed, her eyes studying mine. "I can tell by your eyes. They resemble Zane's when he struggled to control his wolf."
I nodded, acknowledging the truth. "My lycan is struggling, but I will keep it together and maintain control for Skye."
"They might be releasing it in the area, hoping Chaos will appear. We will all stand by you and help."Kali spoke up, offering her support.
Grateful for the encouragement, I promised, "I won't let them gain control over me or make me lose control."
Blade began clawing at me to take control, growling in my mind. It was a feral sound, unlike anything I had ever heard before. "Stay calm," I reminded him. "We must remain composed for Skye's sake."
"We should go into the water. Even if she's blocked away, maybe we can find her." Blade suggested in my mind.
I turned to Aria, “I want to dive in and see if I can sense Skye underwater. Can you use a spell on me? Going under might also help clear my lycan of the spell in the air, at least temporarily."
Aria nodded, her expression resolute. "Yes, I can help. Please locate Skye Chaos, and we will all stand guard to ensure no enemies come near."
Grateful for her assistance, I thanked her.
"Mermaids usually stay further out, but stay cautious." Barys warned me.
"I'll be careful." I assured him.
"I am casting a bubble spell," Aria informed me. "When you go under, an air bubble will form over your nose and mouth, but it is only good for thirty minutes."
"That gives me plenty of time to search. I will locate her and find a way to help get her back to us." I said.
As Aria cast the spell, a shimmering aura surrounded me, the water around me parting to reveal a clear path. With a swift dive, I submerged myself under the water, the coolness enveloping me, and the muffled sounds of the ocean filling my ears.
Driven by my unwavering determination, I propelled myself forward, the currents brushing against my skin, guiding me deeper into the unknown depths. The scent of saltwater lingered in the water, invigorating my senses.
With every stroke, I could feel the pressure of the water against my body, a constant reminder of the weight of my mission. But I pushed through, fueled by the hope of finding Skye, my heart pounding in my chest.
I would not fail.
