Touch

Chaos Her touch was electrifying, sending a surge of life through my veins after what felt like an eternity of emptiness. Yet, as her hands connected with mine, I could sense the subtle tremble, a telltale sign of the pain she concealed. Her stance revealed her hidden anguish, even as she worked tirelessly to heal me without revealing anything. It pained me to see her hurting herself. I caught a glimpse of the look Rook gave her, a look that spoke volumes. He had something on her, and I knew that look all too well - a threat, a form of control. But I couldn't trust the Fae King either. Warning them about the danger she was in seemed futile; it would only escalate matters. Rook kept her close, never letting her out of his sight during our journey. My Lycan, growled with desire, and I couldn't deny my own longing for her, no matter how much I tried to resist the bond that connected us. After a long day of walking, we stumbled upon a serene spot near a glistening body of water. "This will be our only chance to wash up for the next few days, so make the most of it," Rook explained, and Skye nodded with excitement, rushing towards the water. Rook remained vigilant, keeping a watchful eye on her, while Malachi and Talon wandered off to explore the surroundings. My attention was drawn to a small cave hidden behind a cascading waterfall, and Skye seemed captivated by it as well. "I'll clean up there," she pointed, looking at Rook, who allowed her some privacy. As she relaxed near the waterfall, Rook warned me, "Lycan, ensure she doesn't try to escape." "As you command," I replied, positioning myself against a tree, never taking my eyes off her. Skye entered the cave, and Rook informed me, "The only exit is the one we can see." At least she had some solitude. But moments later, the earth beneath us trembled, and Rook cursed, recognizing it as an earthquake. I sprinted towards the cave, and ran in, only to witness several massive boulders crashing down, sealing me inside. I could break free, but it would take time. As I surveyed the darkness, searching for Skye, I caught a fleeting glimpse of a green glow emanating from her hand, before it vanished, leaving me questioning my own eyesight. The cave offered only a dim flicker of light, but it was enough to see her in that moment. "Are you okay?" I asked, concerned. "You're faster than I thought," she muttered in response, confusing me. As she walked over to the water inside the cave, she put her hand in it as if not concerned by the cave-in at all. I pushed on one of the rocks blocking us, realizing it would take me some time to clear a path. "Since you're trapped in here with me, why not take a few minutes of rest away from them?" she suggested, breaking the silence. "I guess I should start now; this will take me some time," I responded, resigned to the task at hand. "Tell me, Chaos, I know you have to follow Rook's orders, but if I told you a secret, would you be forced to tell him?" Skye asked me, her voice filled with curiosity. "No, they can't force me to speak certain things," I admitted, wondering where her line of questioning was leading. "I know Rook will expect you to get me out of this. I guess I knew that all along. Yet, I needed a moment, if only short, away from them. In a way, it's a good thing you got trapped, so you can have a break as well. Now I know my actions will not have caused you extra trouble," she spoke. "Did you cause this cave-in?" I asked, my voice filled with suspicion. "Yes," she simply admitted, surprising me with her straightforward response. "And I can break us free as well. But I'm sure you'd rather me wait some time to do so, for a break. If not, I will do so now," she explained, her voice calm and composed. "I'm assuming Rook doesn't know you can do this," I muttered, my mind racing to process the situation. "Correct, he doesn't know a lot about me," she responded. "Go ahead and wash up, and then we can break out. I'll give you the privacy and break you wanted," I said, walking away to give her some space. I found a spot against a wall, trying to wrap my mind around the fact that she was capable of causing the cave-in. "You're not bad, Chaos. You're just..." she started speaking, her voice trailing off. Suddenly, I heard a splash, followed by an eerie silence. Something was wrong. I quickly got up and rushed towards the water. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I slipped; the water is a lot deeper than I thought," she admitted, coughing slightly. As I started to leave again, she urged me to join her. "You should get in as well. It feels good, warm," she suggested, her voice filled with a sense of comfort. "I've heard of the water in this area on another job I was on. It is said to be healing," I responded, intrigued by her statement. "Then you should definitely get in. I'll get out so you can," she said, her voice kind and considerate. She pulled herself out of the water, dressed only in her undergarments, but my attention was drawn to a fresh cut on her leg. "You're hurt," I growled, instinctively moving closer to her. "I'll be fine; it's just a scratch," she reassured me, her eyes meeting mine for a brief moment. "Finish up, and then we should get out of here," I muttered. "So you don't want to rest?" she questioned, her voice filled with a hint of disappointment. “Being around you is not restful; it's stressful. Trapped like this, even accidentally, will only anger Rook," I snapped, instantly regretting my words. "I see, then sorry. I'll get us out of here, and don't worry, I'll tell Rook you saved me," she spoke, her voice tinged with hurt. As she pulled her clothing back on, my lycan growled in my mind. "I won't bother you again, Lycan," she said, and it felt like a dagger in my heart. She was the first person in so long to call me by my name, Talon. Malachi may have asked for my name, but Skye, she always used it after I gave it to her. Hearing her say "Lycan" made me feel like nothing to her, and it angered me, even though it was my own doing. I lost control and grabbed her, pushing her against a cave wall. "Please stop," she muttered, but I couldn't. I didn't want to lose her, and if I let go now, she would treat me like the others. She started to hyperventilate, her body shaking, and finally, I came to my senses. I released her quickly, but she started to collapse, causing me to grab hold of her and help her to the ground. I let go again, and she hugged her knees, burying her head. "I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking," I apologized, realizing I couldn't leave the cave with her like this. "You're so angry, so hurt and broken. They broke you for something you're not guilty of. I don't blame you for thinking of me as a nuisance. I just wanted to help, and I've made things worse. I've never felt anger so intense," she whispered, keeping her head hidden. "It's my fault I am this way," I responded. She lifted her head, and my breath caught in my throat. There was a small glowing star on her forehead, and as her eyes met mine, they lit up, almost glowing for a moment. "What are you?" I thought to myself as she looked at me. I watched as a tear fell from her eye, glowing. "I hate hurting you, pushing you away, but they can never learn what you mean to me. They can't know I'm your mate," I said silently in my mind as I broke eye contact and started to move away. "I sense it now," she whispered, causing me to stop again. "You're my mate. That's the strange feeling I had, but I've been suppressing my powers, and that also blocked me from sensing the truth. I'm right, aren't I? You're my mate, Chaos," she asked. "Yes," I responded. Without turning around, I continued to walk closer to the rocks blocking our exit. "I'll find a way to free you," she said. "And when I do, will you escape with me? Will you help me?" She asked. "I understand if you don't want me as your mate, since I'm not your kind. I know I pose a danger and may be a nuisance to you, but finding the Unicorn Kingdom is of utmost importance. While I initially believed I could do it alone, I now realize that I need your help. So, if I break you free, Chaos, will you help me?" "Breaking me free is impossible," I responded. "Let me prove you wrong," she insisted. "Fine. If you break me free, I will help you." I responded. "Good, because I accept you as my mate," She confessed, her voice filled with sincerity. "I'm sorry I didn't sense it at first, but I cannot deny that I didn't have instant feelings for you. Despite being a nuisance, I genuinely want to get to know you more." I turned around, facing her once again. My gaze was drawn to the star on her head, slowly fading away. Suddenly, it all made sense. "You're a unicorn," I exclaimed, my voice filled with awe. I instinctively reached out to touch her, but hesitated. However, she reached out and firmly grasped my hand. "Yes, I am," she confirmed, her touch sending a surge of warmth through me. "And when I touch others, I don't just heal. I absorb all emotions, overwhelming me. I can't control the power within me, so I'm searching for answers on how to control it. That's why finding the Unicorn Kingdom is so important to me. I'm sharing this with you because I believe I can trust you, just as I believe you are innocent. I can sense that you're someone who won't break my trust." "I want you, Skye, more than I've ever wanted anything," I confessed, my voice trembling with desire. "But I'm a danger to you like this. Trust me, I've tried to break free for years." "The spell on my lycan and this collar make me powerless," I continued, my voice heavy with frustration. "I can't fight the control they have over me, nor do I want you to put yourself in more danger." The weight of the collar around my neck seemed to tighten with every word, a constant reminder of the constraints that held me captive. "I now understand why Rook wants you," I admitted, my voice tinged with regret. "King Jade put a spell on me, allowing me to let him know if you're in danger. I should have already activated it, but I was selfish, still believing I could protect you." "But now that I know what you are, I know you're in far more danger," I declared. "I will do what's best and activate it." Her eyes widened with fear, and she pleaded with me not to involve Jade. "If you involve him, he will send me home," she protested, her voice filled with urgency. "I understand the danger I may face, but I have to continue," she implored. "I'm stronger than I look. Give me a chance." "They can't know what we are to each other," I cautioned, my voice barely a whisper. "I know," she replied softly. "For now, I will play along, but I will free you, and fast. You have my word. I may not be able to break the spell on your lycan, but I will remove the collar." I gazed into her eyes, longing evident in my own. I yearned to pull her into my arms, to taste her lips and feel the connection that pulsed between us. But I couldn't bear the thought of hurting her. However, she surprised me. With a swift movement, she moved closer, rising up on her tiptoes, and pressed her lips against mine. Time stood still in that moment. The world faded away, leaving only the sensation of her soft lips against mine, the warmth that spread through my body, and the electric current that flowed between us. She was gifting me the chance to feel our connection, to feel alive again, like more than just a prisoner. In that instant, I made a silent vow to fight to keep her, no matter the cost.
