The view from my room is glowing with a faint blue hue as I stepped out of the bathroom.
I was dressed to go for work like any other day but today was different.
It took me two weeks to finally decide that I was not fit for this job anymore, I was underemployed for the past few years.
I picked my tote bag and grabbed my umbrella from the wall hook and gave myself a last look in front of my mirror, a fake smile grew on my cheeks when I realized that I was wearing everything that was against my company’s dressing code.
“Do I give a f**k?”
Definitely no!
I was already in front of the elevator, about to step in when I realized that I haven’t picked up the resignation letter I wrote.
I shook my head in annoyance and rushed back to get it, I worried less about catching the bus as I didn’t care if I come in late.
Since I’m already planning to resign, why not just be a rebel in all aspects?
The bus came few minutes after I had got to the bus station and for the first time in few months, I was able to get a space to sit.
**
“Hey Ana” a co-worker called as I stepped into the building.
“It’s Anastasia” I gave her a forced smile and walked away
I was 100 percent sure that she was scanning me from behind, a lot of people would do so today.
There was no need for me to go to my desk space to drop my bag.
I really do not care about the outcome of my resignation today, I received my salary last night and I don’t remember signing any contract that states that I can’t resign when I want.
I knocked twice on Mr.Logan’s door twice before I was allowed in. His office gave 18th century vibe, each corner were stacked with books and it looks too rough for a CEO’s office.
He stopped scribbling when he noticed who it was and I just lowered my head and stylishly signaled the envelope I was hold.
“Anastasia, you’re looking..”
I smiled. “Different?”
“Yes, exactly!” He stated, gawking furiously.
Without saying anything, I stepped to his desk and dropped my resignation later. Our eyes met and I didn’t show any reaction.
“You’re resigning?” He asked, rubbing his fingers as he looked up at me.
With a sharp nod. “Yes, sir”
“Whyyy??” My eyes botched at his question.
“Do you want me to talk about the late night shifts?, or the time I had to take over someone’s else’s work because I lived close and they live far?” I shook my head, my hands fell on my waist.
“I wouldn’t blame you, misery loves company and that’s why you want every of your employees to suffer in the name of working, I’ve worked so hard for the past three years, getting salary that can only feed me and you are asking me whyyy?” I scoffed, scratching my hair as I was getting pissed by his reaction.
“Have you forgotten about the time I was robbed on my way to give you the document at the airport ,I was injured , my phone and money was stolen, did you compensate me?”
Of course, he wouldn’t answer and that’s because I was talking to myself.
“Anastasia??” He called me and I was immediately detached from my imagination.
I wouldn’t dare tell him all that, I wouldn’t want a remark that’ll taint my resume.
“So….I want to chase my dream” I replied frankly.
“Really?, could your dream be any better than this job?” He wasn’t making any sense so I just forced a smile.
“You’re free!” The excitement in my tummy was really out of the world. “It’ll be hard for you to find a better job than working here, best of luck Mrs. Clark”
“I’m not married sir” I gave him a displeased stare, he obviously did that intentionally.
without further ado, I stepped out of his office and immediately began to pack my stuffs, I didn’t take a single thing that belongs to the company and I didn’t really make friends that I was emotionally attached to so it was just a simple goodbye.
I stayed in the lobby for 3 good hours before I finally received a text from my boyfriend, Eric that he was here.
“Finally” I sighed and got up with my carton, I wasn’t expecting him to come help me.
If anyone was against my resignation, it’d be him anytime, any day but I have my own life to live and I know what is good for me.
I walked down to the car park to meet him, the least he could do was come out to help me but he didn’t move an inch.
I opened the front seat door and sat without saying a word.
“You good?” My ever good looking man asked after 5 minutes because I wasn’t talking.
“I am” I said coldly.
He proceed to start the car. “What is your plan now that you’ve resigned?”
“I’m sure you know it’ll be hard for you to get a job after…”
“Can you please say something positive?, I’m not looking forward to words of encouragement from you but don’t discourage me” There was a pinch of sadness in my tone.
“I really didn’t mean it like that, I just didn’t want you to be jobless” He uttered, trying to touch my thighs.
Oh well, trying to gaslight me as if he didn’t just insult me.
I didn’t say a word to him as he just kept driving.
Few minutes into the drive.
After 15 minutes, I decided to break the silence in between us. “I’ll like to start up my own business”
I slowly turned to face him even though he was driving and wouldn’t look at me.
“It’s not as easy as you think, you know what I had to deal with too” I fold my arms and sigh into space.
“I’m not starting a large business, I only want to specialize into cleaning peoples house”
“Whattt??” Eric flared up and stepped on the break pad hastily.
“Wtf!” I yelled as my head hit the storage compartment.
“I’m so sorry, it wasn’t intentional, I was just shocked” He rasped impatiently seeing how red I’ve become.
“What’s there to be shocked about?, isn’t it better than being jobless and it’s something I love?” I told him.
He swiveled to the safe side of the road and parked.
“Cleaning isn’t a suitable for you, you’re a f*****g graduate”
“Can we stop talking about this?, I want to go home” I said to him.
“We can but trust me, dusting your resume to search for job is better than dusting someone’s floor” As if he hasn’t said enough, i just squint my eyes as if I was sleeping.
Just as he was about to start the car, we heard a gunshot and before I could even react, someone slumped on Eric’s car with blood splattering all over the window frame.
“Oh my God!” I screeched, I was instantly paralyzed with fear.
