Chapter 18: Run Rabbit, Run!

“Wow! This is amazing!” Andrew said as he saw top of the range computer hardware. There was enough sever and computer equipment to run a small company.

“Well I made some modifications to some stuff, you know basic capacity increasing processes” Zoe said sitting down in the big chair.

“Do you guys want a seat? You must be tired!” Zoe said sympathetically.

“Don’t worry, you warm up Alice and we go and get the chairs” Dave said. Once in the dining room, Dave whispered “You two have a big problem. We will talk later”

All three of them came back with chairs and sat down carefully. Dave sat in front of the second computer system.

Suddenly there was a voice coming from the computer.

“Evening White Rabbit,  good to see you again” the computer said

“Evening Alice, Mad Hatter is also here” Zoe said

“Acknowledged. Would you like to drink or eat before starting?” Alice the computer said

“Drink please” Zoe said

“Acknowledged. 3 attacks recorded on system, one from London, UK. Failed on Ace of Spades task. One from Russia, failed on The two of hearts tasks and 1 from Mexico, failed on 3 of clubs task. No attack successful” Alice said

“What?” Kurt asked. London was definitely his guys and he knew they were brightest.

“Alice explain our security system please” Dave said

“My security system is unique as it is based on random algorithms. Each attacker wants to find a back door, instead they are randomly allocated a playing card. Each card has a task allocated it, depending on the class and number. Diamond is logic, hearts is moral, clubs is team based and spades is lateral thinking. The difficulty goes up as the value of the card increases.  In order to access my system, each attacker much collect all 52 cards. So far only 4 have been attained” Alice explained.

“A game within a game” Kurt muttered

“I have programmed over 1000 tasks for each suite of cards. It is completely random and only very small percentage of the answers can be looked up. Alice shuts down any repeat attackers and has is linked to every virus database in the world. Many without them even knowing” Zoe said

“In short gentleman, Alice is one of the most secure systems in the world. You can’t create a program for morals for example very easily. You could base your program on probability, but that is rarely right. For example, probability would dictate you would always save a man, because they have a better chance of survival. Whilst humans would say saving children might be more important” Dave explained.

“This is incredible! You managed to creat a system that needs emotion as well as intelligence! Kurt said astounded.

“As soon as ALICE senses a attack or player, she aromatically hacks their system and implants a key recognition programme” Zoe explained

“But surely that would be recognised by a business systems easily?” Kurt said frowning 

“Not if you use a retro virus, most business antivirus doesn’t include old viruses before a certain date. Most programmers don’t use them because they are old and unpredictable. But we managed to isolate one and it has a 95 percent success rate” Zoe said with a smile.

“Told you they were good!” Andrew said

“So about that job, you can name your price” Kurt said and Zoe chuckled

“I am sure you have much smarter people then me working for you!”Zoe said blushing 

“But your dyslexia gives your work a twist that no one else can see. Plus you are very smart, you know” Andrew said with a wink. This made Zoe chuckle more.

“Do you want to go down the rabbit hole or through the looking glass?” Alice asked

Zoe was about to answer when there was a loud knocking at the door. 

“Zoe...please don’t tell me..” Dave growled

“Oh stop it Dave!” Zoe scolded as she went to get the door. She was met with a very worried Akihiko and Ena. Akihiko wasted not time in pulling her into a big hug.

“Thank the Gods, I was so worried. You weren’t at Bar” Akihiko said burring his face into Zoe’s shoulder. 

“Akihiko what is wrong?” Zoe asked, she could see Akihiko was anxious.

“We need to get you to safety, there is some people on the Island who would hurt you if they got a chance” Akihiko said.

“Oh, well why don’t you come in. I got some friends over and then I will go to your place” Zoe said and Akihiko nodded. 

Zoe held his hand and walked into her office. “Hi everyone, this is Akihiko my partner. Akihikio this is...” Zoe said but before she could finish Akihiko pulled Zoe behind him protectively.

“Run!” Akihiko ordered Zoe in Japanese 

“What? No Akihiko, this is Andrew my old uni friend and this is Kurt who..”Zoe said trying to push past him feeling very confused.

“I perfectly know who they are Zoe! Why can’t you just do what I ask for once?” Akihiko said furiously as he pushed her back.

“So this is where you ended up is it?” Kurt hissed

“Akihiko, what is wrong with you?” Zoe snapped

“There is a lot wrong with him Pumpkin, he is a very dangerous man” Andrew said

“Akihiko let me go!” Zoe said trying to get out of his steel like grip on her wrist.

“You heard her, let her go. She has nothing to do with whatever syndicate grudges you guys have” Dave snapped getting up. He did not want Zoe to be any deeper into the Gang world then  she already was.

“So this was your plan? To take Zoe in order to get to me?” Akihikio spat

“You are so vain!  We are not here for you, we are here for Zoe” Andrew hissed.

Akihiko face went white at the thought of Zoe being taken away from him.

“Take her to some place safe, now. I will slow them down” Akihiko ordered in Japanese.

“Ena, what are you doing?” Zoe said as she tried to get out of Ena’s hold. It was no use though, Ena was of course an expert in Martial Arts.

“Come child, we need to get you to safety” Ena said as he guided out the door.

“Zoe! No!” Andrew said rushing forward, but Akihikio pushed him back and got into his fighting stance.

“I don’t believe it!” Kurt said astonished 

“What is it?” Andrew hissed as he prepared to punch the hell out of Akihiko!

“The Son of the b***h is completely and utterly in love with Zoe! Don’t deny it Akihiko, I seen that look before on Alannah’s face when she is prepared to die for someone she loves. Oh, this is going to be fun!” Kurt said smugly. 

“You will not place one finger on her, understand? You have no idea what lengths I will go to protect her!” Akihiko said in a dangerous tone. He knew then he would protect his little Dragon with his life. She had given him a second chance and he was determined  not too waste it!

“Maybe we should take it down a few levels. We all want the same thing, to protect Zoe. Why don’t we talk about the situation and come up with some agreement?” Dave said

Meanwhile, Ena had managed to get a very disgruntled Zoe into the car and belted up in the back.  He sat in the drivers seat and sped off at high speed.

“Can you please tell me what is going on?” Zoe asked. Ena was just about to say something when a van came out of nowhere and slammed into the side of the. The car flipped down a small slope and landed on its roof. Zoe was temporarily stunned, but when she came too she heard men’s voices.

“She is down there! Get her quickly!” One of them said.

Zoe spoke into her watch “Alice, activate Run rabbit run program” 

Last thing she heard was Alice saying “Run rabbit run Activated” before she passing out.

Back in Zoe’s home the men were all still glaring at each other. 

“How can we trust him?” Kurt pointed out. 

Suddenly the computer screen changed. 

“Run rabbit, run. Run rabbit, run” was repeated over and over again until  it filled the whole screen.

“What the hell?” Andrew said looking at the screen.

“Oh no! Alice give update on white rabbit”Dave ordered

“White Rabbit has been captured and current status unconscious” Alice reported.

“She been kidnapped? By Ena?” Andrew said confused

“No, by the Blood Gods” Dave said looking at the screen with very worried look on his face.
