Meg’s Awakening
It was after work on a Thursday evening when Nancy cornered her best friend, Meg, in a tiny all night diner. Alone in the small establishment, with at least two hours to kill and no obligations to anyone, the timing was perfect for a long overdue chat. They probably should have headed home after their night shift in the hospital, but as far as Nancy was concerned, the confrontation was necessary, far more important than a few hours of sleep. “So, tell me about you and Dr. Merriman,” Nancy deftly interjected into a conversation that began with the two commiserating over their grumpy patient in room 329 and the lousy burgers in the hospital cafeteria.
