CHAPTER 14 FRIDAY EVENING, AND I’d worked right up to six thirty and brought a few hours’ work home with me so I didn’t have to go back to the office until Monday. And when I walked through the gateway of Heron Court, my weekend got better because Joe was sitting on the low wall outside the front door, tapping away at his phone. He put it back into his pocket when he saw me, and that wide smile made my whole year. He looked more relaxed today too, less rigid in the way he carried himself, and it took a couple of years off him. How old was he, anyway? I didn’t even know.
