|Flashback| Seraphina stood in the balcony of the lounge area, staring out into the kingdom below her as she watched the sun setting down the horizon, the colour of the sky matching the strands of her hair gently ruffling in the light breeze that came from the South. So much had happened in the last two days and it was only now that she was finally getting the time to take it all in. She had just gotten her magic back, finally given Krogon everything that he deserved by ruining his court and his palace. But that had not been enough to kill him. He was still alive and Seraphina felt the ghost of his touch around her neck when he had appeared in Gideon’s form in her bedroom the previous night. It was the most unexpected thing that Krogon had ever done. She now wondered just how much of her magic had he been able to harness in the time that he had held it captive around his neck. Drystan had been furious and scared out of his mind regarding her security. It was evident from the fact that the skies seemed more crowded with the number of patrolling dragons flapping their wings. The sound was all she had heard through the entire day since the moment she had woken up. “Is it absolutely necessary to increase the number of patrols in this wing?” She had asked Drystan after she had woken up and found the morning sky filled with majestic dragons, all wearing armoured plates and their fangs replaced by iron ones for more precision in the kill. Drystan had simply hugged her from behind and given her a gentle kiss on her head, “I won’t be able to sleep if I didn’t ensure that you were completely safe.” Seraphina had understood his emotion but still she believed that he was going to far off lengths for her. “I’ll make sure that I keep Cora and Joel in my chambers tonight. They are more than capable of protecting me.” That was the statement which had gotten Drystan to furrow his brows as he pulled back to look at her with a questioning glance, “what do you mean ‘in your chambers’?” He had demanded. Seraphina hadn’t been able to understand his question and that was when he had finally announced— “You shall be sleeping in my chambers until I can be certain that Krogon is dead, darling wife. And I do not want any arguments about this.” This is what had caused her to step back and look flustered as she stared into his violet eyes, firm with his utter will. She knew it was no use to even try to change his mind. And more than anything else, the idea of sleeping in his room and waking up to the sight of his beautiful face was something that pleased her to great extents. That was when she had finally nodded and agreed to his offer. Right before he had suggested, “I can sleep out in the hall if the thought of sleeping beside me is abhorring to you.” There was a hint of insecurity hidden behind his very genuine offer and she could practically see it in his orbs that he was dying for her to deny something like that. And she did. She shook her head and reached up on her toes to kiss his lips with the most tenderness that she could muster. That was before she had pulled back and smiled with nothing but true emotions shining in her emerald eyes. “I would like nothing more than to have you protect me, even in my sleep. Waking up by your side was the most blissful moment of my life and I wish to relive it for as long as you would like to have me.” That had been the end of all doubt and conflict regarding her sleeping situations. Seraphina could not help the smile that was on her face at the moment as she stared out to the capital city spread far and wide around the palace of her Kingdom. This was home to her. This is what had always been home to her. Drystan was home. Her home. She knew that there was nothing in this world that he wouldn’t do in order to ensure that she was safe. She also knew that he was the only man in the entire world that she trusted with all her heart and soul. “Penny for your thoughts?” Niko came up from behind her and asked with a soft smile on his lips. He rested his elbow on the banister, crossing his legs as he stood watching his sister in law with a pleased expression. She chuckled when she saw him. “I see that you’re finally talking to me again.” She murmured. Niko shrugged, “well, you know, after I heard that you almost got killed…it really gave me some perspective on things you know?” He said with a large sheepish grin on his lips. Seraphina laughed at that, shaking her head knowing that he was always going to be in a mood for mischief. “But seriously, I’m sorry that happened to you. Must have been really infuriating when you found out that Krogon was still alive.” Niko stated in all seriousness after a few moments. That was what caused Seraphina to groan and nod. “I always knew he was a slimy rodent. I just underestimated his surviving skills.” Niko shrugged, “well, I’m glad that at least you’re not going anywhere. I don’t know if I can handle having my favourite redhead leave this place.” She chuckled, shaking her head before reaching out to hug him, “I know, Nik. I wouldn’t have been able to leave you all either.” And as Niko wrapped her in a gentle embrace, Seraphina knew that he was the brother that she never had. And he would always be there by her side.
