Chapter 6: The Proposal

1497 Words
I sat on the steps of the house on Friday afternoon waiting patiently for Tye. He had been so secretive all week about where he was taking me, but I could also sense a bit of nervousness, which made me feel nervous in return. Sometimes I hated that we were so in tune together that we fed off each other's emotions, but other times it felt perfect because I could feel his love, I knew he was mine as I was his. His truck came to a stop at the bottom of the steps pulling me out of my thoughts and as I jumped down the steps, he was already climbing out opening the passenger door for me. "Hi baby." He kissed my cheek as I climbed in, and he shut the door behind me. "Ready." I nodded as he ran around the truck climbing in. "So, where did you say you were taking me again?" He shook his head pulling out of the driveway onto the road, "Nice try, but it's a surprise darling." He took my hand and brushed his lips softly across my knuckles. "It's a bit of a drive so why don't you rest." I leaned my head back, closing my eyes and smiled as I listened to him sing to the radio and darkness soon took me over. I felt when the truck came to a stop and slowly raised up opening my eyes. It was already dark outside and from what I could see we were parked in the middle of some trees, and you couldn't even see the stars, the foliage was so thick above us. "Where are we?" I whispered but was only met with the sound of the truck door shutting and mine opening as Tye stood there with his hands stretched out for me and smiling. "What are we doing here?" I asked, hoping to get an answer. "It's a surprise." He said in a hushed tone taking my hand and pulling me out on my feet. "Trust me," He whispered as he took a piece of material out of his pocket and gently paced it over my eyes tying it around my head. "Let's go." He took my hand and led me blindly to wherever it was. I tried to focus on my surroundings, I could hear a creek in the distance, and the crickets were singing so loudly it almost drowned out the crunching of the debris beneath our feet. The anticipation was killing me, but I wanted to be the supportive girlfriend and let him do his thing. Who was I to ruin a surprise? We came to a stop, and I felt his hands on my shoulders, which meant he was standing in front of me, "Stay there for a minute." He kissed my lips, and I didn't miss the slight tremble in them. I only nodded and played with my fingers as I waited patiently for him to tell me what next. In a few minutes, I swear I smelled the fresh scent of lavender float on the breeze as it whipped past my face. "Alright darling, you can take that thing off." He said loudly and I reached behind my head to untie it. The blindfold fell to the ground, and I felt the breath catch in my throat as my heart started beating out of control at the sight in front of me. There were candles in a heart shape lit on the ground with a blanket laid out in the middle and a picnic basket. I blinked my eyes a few times to let them adjust a bit more and look around, there were trees all around the outskirt of the area we were standing, and the moon was just starting to rise in front of me as it's light was reflected on the body of water that laid there peacefully not far from the candles. "What is this place?" I asked as I tried to catch my breath. Tye took my hands and led me on the other side of the candles, where we were standing on the waters edge. He turned to face me and took both of my hands in his as he stared down into my eyes. "Lizzy, I have loved you from afar for far too long, I have to tried to show you in this last year all the love I feel for you in my heart, and I want to spend the rest of my life loving you from here," he placed his hand on his heart. "I don't want to waste anymore time, I want it all, but I don't want any of it without you." He took a small box out of his pocket, and I felt my heart stop, just completely stop. "Elizabeth Marie Anderson, would you do me the honor of running off and marrying me, be my wife, let's walk this crazy thing we call life hand in hand. I promise to make all your dreams come true, I promise to love you with my whole heart the rest of my life, and I promise to never break yours." He took the ring out and gently slid it on my finger. "So, what do you say?" He smiled down at me. "Yes," I let out breathlessly, "Yes a thousand times, yes." He wrapped me in his arms, picking me up and swinging me around while he kissed me passionately before he finally placed me back on my feet. I held my hand near the candlelight looking at the ring. It wasn't a typical engagement ring, and I loved him even more for it. It was a horseshoe ring with a simple diamond in the middle. He took my hand and led me to the middle of the candles on the blanket, "Where are we?" He pulled me down into his lap as he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close. "This is ours, this is where we will make a home, this is where we will raise our family and make a lifetime full of memories. I am going to build our log home over there," he pointed to a darkened spot on the other side of the water. "And I am going to build you a barn over there." He pointed to another spot. "And I am going to build me a studio there where I can work on my music. And then we can build whatever else you want." He smiled at me and I fell a hundred more times in love with him. "What do you think?" "I think it's perfect." I looked around and then looked back giving him my mischievous smile, "But you know, Widow needs his own special place." We had had this discussion a thousand times, I wasn't letting Widow go anywhere, we had come along ways over the last year, and sometimes Tye joked I loved the horse more than I did him. He reached in the corner of the picnic basket and pulled out an envelope handing it to me. "What's this?" "Widow is now yours. Consider it an early wedding gift." He kissed my cheek, and I opened the envelope. Sure enough, it was his registration papers, and they were already in my name. I felt the tears well up in my eyes as I looked back at him, "I owe that horse everything, he brought us together, and I couldn't imagine him belonging to anyone else." "I love you Tye." I kissed him softly. "I love you Lizzy." He whispered back. The rest of the evening we spent eating our peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches and just holding each other. We talked about the wedding, I was sure my mom would be upset if we ran off and got married, so we agreed on something small at my house. We wanted to do it before August, but I wasn't sure if I could pull it all off by then. I knew he had his audition and he wanted to be married before he took it on, it was pretty much a guaranteed record deal they just had to go through all the steps before signing anything. I told him I would try my best to have it all together by then, and then we agreed if I didn't have it all together, we would just elope and deal with a ceremony later. I didn't care to be honest, I was going to marry Tyler Macon, and I would do it however I needed to. Before dropping me off that night, he told me of his plans of us telling his mother in a couple of days together. That made me nervous, I knew his mother didn't like me, she made it well known around town, but if he was sure about us, I would do whatever he wanted, as long as we did it together. What was the worse that could happen?
