Lancel notices that the first mistake he did was moving away the pawn that was placed in front of his Bishop at F2, which eventually leading him to get to this point. Vallénce used this opening to checkmate him, while Lancel was concentrating at someplace else.
But this is so unlike Lancel, though. He was usually very careful and calculative at every motion. I guess the years out of practice have changed him.
