He followed me.
I knew for a fact even he hadn’t come after me I would've still went to look myself. And as it happened, with every step I was taking closer to the locked door I couldn’t shook off the dark cloud that was gathering around me. It felt like this was the turning point… and I didn’t know if I’d come intact from this at all.
I stood in front of the locked door and stared at it for long minutes. It wasn’t until Alex touched my arm that startled me, making me take a step back. “Let me.” He stepped forward and in one smooth motion kicked the door back.
I didn’t get to appreciate his strength as he cursed and walked inside the room. No, all I could do in that moment was to hold myself up as what I saw in that room took me someplace else.
