A Party?

1296 Words
Lake The rest of the day went uneventful except the fight Liam got into— which I had a feeling was because of Trace. But still, I was hyperaware of my surroundings, fear and a weird sort of excitement lingered somewhere that once again I’d cross paths with the angry god but it didn’t happen. And I wasn’t disappointed. Nope. It was odd, the mixture of emotions I felt when faced with him. I had met him only ones before, and now two times as of this morning, but there’s something— an unknown spark that has me enthralled of him. The cold and insulting, almost cruel man. Alex Carter. “Hey,” I looked at Trace who was walking beside me while Liam and Asher were busy arguing about something that happened on football field. “You are coming right?” I arched my brow to which she added, “Welcoming party at Mason’s, a first of many for the last sem.” Oh. I had totally forgotten about it. The only thing my mind had on a loop was the man that had often visited me in my dreams and a kiss that bruised not only my lips but my ego too. “Lake?” Startled, I gave her a quick nod without thinking as I said, “Yeah, of course. Meet me at my place.” As soon as the words left me the memory of the last party I had attended, my own birthday, assailed me and on the heels of it the green eyes flashed in warning in my mind. Her baby blue eyes lit up and she smiled. “Yes! I’d get to meet Crook.” I chuckled, knowing that they both were crazy about each other. Crook loved her more than he loved me. I nudged her shoulder with mine and glanced at the boys to make sure they were still engrossed in their football talk before I said, “Why are you suddenly so excited to go to a party? I know you, and the fact that how much you hate these type of things.” Her smile disappeared and her expression turned solemn as her eyes went over my head to where I knew was Liam standing as she said, “I have decided to stop wasting my time thinking that something good would happen in my life.” Her eyes came back to me and she added, “Now, I’m going to do something good for myself.” Her words had me looking up at her in surprise but she was already looking at Liam. If I was reluctant to be between strangers, Trace was almost a recluse, so her wanting to go to a party was unexpected. I took hold of her elbow and pulled her to the side, away from the boys. “What happened?” I asked, my eyes narrowed on her. She visibly stiffened in front of me as if readying herself for the battle. “We promised ourselves that we won't waste this last semester hiding behind our walls and I meant it, didn't you? So that's that, I want to go, Lake.” “Where are you going?” The question came from behind me and Trace froze, her eyes widening for a second before she dismissed Liam with a cold, “Its none of your business.” And then with a smile on her lips, she turned to me as she said, “I can't wait.” The nervous squeal in her words had me glancing at her twice. The way my always calm and sweet friend was out of sorts told me that Trace was hiding something, and besides the promise we made, it was something else that was spurning her to go to the party tonight. “I asked you a question.” Liam growled as he came to stand between me and Trace. I sighed and was about to push him away when Asher grabbed me from the waist and hauled me backward. A soft squeak left my lips as I turned my attention to him. “Damn it, Asher! Don’t sneak up on me like that.” “Sorry.” He replied sheepishly and then, “I’ll pick you up for the party.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Why?” He chucked me under the chin as he said, “Do I have to give a reason for it?” “I suppose not.” I answered. His lips curved up in a victorious smile until I added, “But I want to know all the same.” Asher made a face and said, “I won’t lie, but there are two reasons and I’ll give you one.” I nodded, knowing he won’t answer if he didn’t want to. “I wasn’t going to go to that party but Liam told me you girls are planning to go, and since I know as you told me what happened at your birthday party… I just can’t let you guys go alone.” My heart softened. Asher was a flirt. Hot headed and most arrogant of all in our little group and in the school too. May be it comes with the surname he has, King. But for me, he was just Asher, my closest to heart friend, my secret keeper— most of them, at least. I haven’t told anyone, not even Liam— whom I consider my brother, about the accident that happened on my birthday night and how someone saved me. Asher knows, but not everything. Not that, that someone was now our new English teacher. “Hey guys, are we done wasting time, I’m hungry!” Asher and I both turned to face Chase at his announcement, the students walking by us looked at him too. Most of the girls raked their eyes on each one of the boys. But unfortunately for them, Liam was still busy, furiously whispering something in Trace’s ear, and despite his proclaim to be hungry Chase's eyes were fixed on his phone screen as he typed quickly. “We are done as soon as Liam is.” Asher drawled, his arm coming around my waist as he walked me towards the car. “I’ll drop you home.” He said to me. “Thank you.” . Ghost I watched from the shadows as she walked to a black mustang and the boy with dark hair and grey eyes, I think his name was Asher, opened the door for her. She directed a soft smile at him and once again I detected that there was something that they both shared. They gave the vibe of something different than the one she shared with Liam— brotherly kind. My eyes strayed to the couple, still engrossed in a whispered battle. Liam and Trace. I shook my head and flicked my eyes to the fifth person of her little group. My eyes narrowed as I watched him, Chase was his name— if I’m not wrong. He looked around himself, his eyes searching the parking lot of the school, but that wasn’t it… it was the guilty look on his face he was trying to hide. He turned around and stopped, I followed his gaze and bit back a curse when I realised it was a girl he was searching. Fûcker wasted my time, but then again, this little information will probably come handy at some point in the future. For now, I have my own obsession to follow. After all these months, she had finally decided to communicate, not in the literal sense, but she was reaching out and I was only too ready to pull her into my dark web. . To Be Continued...
