DAISHIRO DELVIN ❧ ❧ ❧ I heard the main gate open; I knew it was Jeremy. I quickly pressed the earpiece and asked, "Jeremy, what's the report?" "I've dropped her off at their university campus, Boss. It looks like she's staying in a dorm," Jeremy replied on the other line. I could hear the music playing in his background. "Can you please stop the music? How many times have I told you to upgrade your earpiece to a noise-canceling one? They have the upgraded version at headquarters," I complained, but Jeremy was more old-fashioned, given his age. He wasn't a fan of the new gadgets provided at headquarters. "I'll try, boss, if I like it," he replied, causing me to shake my head as I adjusted my necktie. "Jeremy, that's an order," I responded coldly, and he fell silent. "Give me a background check on Reina Morgan and find out how close she is to Raymon. Look into the rumors about those siblings. I need the report ASAP," I commanded, pulling open the glass drawer where my collection of vintage and luxury watches was displayed. "Roger that," Jeremy replied, and I ended the call. I slipped on a gold-plated watch with a brown leather strap and left the room. I searched for the folder I needed to review and walked out of the vacation house. Jeremy met me outside and opened the car door for me. Once I was seated and he closed the door, he quickly got into the driver's seat and was about to turn on the music when I caught his gaze in the rearview mirror. "Jeremy, your family is in Verine, right?" I threatened him, and he immediately placed both hands on the steering wheel. He knew how different I am when I am mad, and if he ignored what I was saying, I could teach him a lesson. The gate opened, and the car emerged. It drove quietly as I read through the contents of the folder, signing each document one by one. "Have you received the report about the new bar the Black Dragons have set up? I don't want any competition in my territory. Tell Calvin to update me on Raymon's actions and do a background check on Reina." Lately, another mafia group has attempted to establish businesses in my controlled area. In Gazina, each mafia group has its own territory, and I own the entire Lumire area. However, the Black Dragon group is starting to encroach on my territory. They're looking for trouble and disregarding the rules. They have no idea who they're messing with this time. "About that, Boss, some of our clients have been seen frequenting the bar set up by their group. Among them are several governors from Lumire. According to the report, there's a black market operating in the bar's underground facility," Jeremy explained. I couldn't help but laugh. Leaning back in my chair, I crossed my arms and gazed out the window. "Hahaha, that m*therf#cker, we'll show them who they're messing with." I can't wait to see Raymon crawling before me, begging for mercy. Did he dare steal my VIP clients? I despise having what's mine taken away. He has no idea what he's up against; he's flying too high for a new mafia group that hasn't even lasted a year in the industry. The higher-ups in the organization will laugh at him for breaking the rules and clashing with the Midnight Ravens. And to accomplish that, I need to win Reina over. Who would have thought that the opportunity would fall right into my hands? "Boss, you still have a meeting at the office and a photo shoot at 2:00 PM," Jeremy said as my phone rang. I saw the message from an unknown number, and a smile spread across my face. "Cancel my schedule from 2:00 PM onwards. I have plans," I replied, unable to hide the smile on my lips. I must be really lucky today; Reina herself is walking right into my trap. ❧ ❧ ❧ "Daishiro, are you going somewhere later? Aoki Corp has a meeting tonight, and we also have one at the headquarters. Don't tell me you're leaving again?" my grandfather asked, his irritation evident. I silently shook my head. "Don't worry, Boss. I'll come back right away to make it to the meeting," I replied with a smile. I noticed his cold stare, knowing he didn't appreciate the smile I gave him. "You know what happens to those who are late to meetings. I don't like tardiness, Shiro," he warned me. I understood; being late was the one thing he couldn't tolerate during his meetings. I bowed as he walked past, flanked by bodyguards and other group members. My grandfather is the leader of the Midnight Ravens mafia, and I am his successor—the one next in line to take over the entire business and this mafia group. I was thirteen when he took me in. Before that, I had been passed around among our relatives because no one wanted to take in someone like me. Maybe it was because, even as a child, I was almost a killer, always involved in trouble in every corner of the school. I became a dropout, and no one had the patience to deal with me. It all began when my mother died. My father fell into drug addiction, following in Mom's footsteps—now they are both six feet in the ground. Since that day, my life lost all direction until I met Boss. It was then I discovered that my grandfather, a leader of the underground syndicate that controlled all of Lumire, was alive. He was searching for an heir to inherit the business and brotherhood of the Midnight Ravens, the mafia group he founded, and I was the one he chose. He raised me in his home despite my father's years of estrangement—he clothed, fed, and sent me back to school. Now, I go by the name Delvin Aoi, my stage name as a model and businessman, for no one must know that I am part of the largest syndicate in Gazina. "I need to gain the Boss's trust." I quickly took a seat at the office desk and opened my laptop, which contained Calvin's background check on Reina. According to my sources, the Morgans have four siblings. The eldest is Raymon, and Reina is the third. Reina and Reiley are illegitimate children, and Reiley is the youngest daughter. Meanwhile, Raymon and Roseline are the legitimate children from Ruwel's first marriage to Amanda. "Haha, the family tree of billionaires is truly messy. I wonder how many more children Ruwel has out there?" I tapped my fingertip on the table; my arms crossed as I stared at the stolen pictures of Reina on the screen. "She looks familiar," I whispered, feeling like I'd seen her somewhere before, though I couldn't quite place it. As far as I knew, Reina had only made one public appearance because the Morgans kept their lives private, and Ruwel fiercely protected them. But the most elusive of all was Reina; I didn't have much information about her, and her life seemed to unfold in complete silence. All I knew was that she was Raymon's favorite sister, something he'd mentioned several times in interviews. Perhaps that's why I didn't recognize her right away when she asked for my help. The report noted that she was only seven years old when Ruwel first introduced her and made her legal as Morgan. Since then, Reina's face has never been seen in the press again. "Hmmm... only a few know Raymon's true identity as a Mafia Boss. I'm sure the Morgans have no idea what he's been up to," I pondered, caught in a dilemma—should I tarnish Raymon's name in the media or handle this according to the rules of our Mafia? No one can discover the identities of our society's members. Every piece of information about each clan member was private and secured. After all, all the businesses we operated were illegal. "I need something to secure a good deal with the Black Dragons. I need someone to act as bait, and Reina is perfect for that role." I found myself smiling again as I looked at Reina's pictures. I have to admit, she's beautiful. Her features are quite different from the Morgans', but she inherited Ruwel's eye color. She's a bit high-maintenance and bratty but doesn't rely on her family's wealth. According to the information in front of me, she lives in a dorm and has a small condo in Central City. She's attending university on a scholarship. She loves to paint and is pursuing a master's in Music and Arts. She's had two ex-boyfriends but doesn't have many friends. "Is that a judo balck belt? Hahaha, is this for real? She looks so weak." I couldn't help but tease Reina; I wanted to see her cry and feel miserable right before me. That innocent face of hers—how I long to tarnish it. Her pretentiousness and bravado? I yearned to strip those away and replace them with fear. I often wonder how Raymon would react if I returned to him his beloved sister, utterly broken. The kind of person he wouldn't be able to talk to, just a shell staring blankly into space. Thinking about all this sends a thrill coursing through my veins. I craved that rush that comes with a new mission, one where I had to eliminate my target. I enjoyed the feeling of warm, thick blood on my palms, the satisfying impact of my fists crashing into my enemy's skull, and the sickening crack of breaking bones. I was raised in the midst of chaos, and that's the very reason I still crave life now. I want someone to turn my world upside down, someone who will drive me insane and inflict pain upon me. Because I've never truly experienced hurt, I've never felt the sting of physical pain. I can't quite understand why, but my entire body has become numb. It's only when I'm cut or shot that I finally feel alive. Perhaps I really am a masochist—crazy and riddled with trauma. Because of that, I crave to torment my victims until they fight back and hurt me. "Do you think you can do that, Reina? Hahaha, I can hardly wait." I caressed Reina's picture on my laptop screen before gathering my things. It's time for our dinner date. TO BE CONTINUED
