At exactly twelve thirty, Noah knocked on my door. I was standing in the living room, anxious and nervous, and when he didn’t immediately walk in, my nerves ratcheted higher. I waited another few seconds, my heart pounding, and then I crossed the floor to pull open the door. Noah grinned when he saw me, and held up a bunch of grocery store roses wrapped in cellophane. I was so surprised I could do nothing but gape. He laughed, and then reached out and used one finger to lift my chin. He moved his hand to cup my cheek. “Had to pick up my date the right way, right?” he asked, stepping in a little closer. His thumb caressed my jawline and I shivered a little. “Yeah.” I cleared my throat and took the flowers. “Thank you. These are nice.” “I was hoping you would think so. You’re welcome.” H
