Chapter 15: Care for her

1357 Words
The first task Arion had was finished after he successfully registered himself as a mage. The lady who conducted her aptitude test was Sarra and she said they'd give his emblem signifying his rank the same day and he was waiting for it. In the meantime, he was doing some research inside the room of a Jade Princess where he pushed and forced her in an embarrassing and unforgettable situation. "Now tell me more about magic," Arion swooshed his index finger under his nose asking Adriel the secrets of magic. "Magic? More like tell me where you get that armor that looks like harder than a diamond guard." Adriel turned the tables and questioned him instead. Arion conspicuously sighed and eluded his question while frowning in distress. "This will go nowhere. I should revise my question and ask a different person..." He was looking above staring at the thing that appeared to be a light bulb but isn't. Pondering over his next words, he noticed something was attached to the light bulb which will then light up the entire chamber. His deduction is quite accurate considering the structure of the house was designed just the same way from medieval times but it's elevated in different ways and aspects. In short, there's just no way the inhabitants of this world have the means of using electricity if they can use mana as the basis of their energy. Now he came up with the proper question he must understand next. "Tell me, Lilith," Arion faced her. "Wh-What is it?" She's timid and reserved. "What kind of magic do you use and how you can produce it? I want an example if possible." He asked what he needed. They say experience is the best teacher which is unmistakably true. He's currently learning the magic from those who use it rather than sitting in a corner reading a book and of course, he doesn't like that idea since he truly had limited time. "Uhm..." Lilith is too embarrassed when Arion's face was almost touching her cheeks. "Don't get too close to her!" Adriel yanked him off back to his seat. Based on her psychological reaction, Arion believes there are only two reasons why she did that and the first one being maybe because he wanted him to be cautious or second is that she's just jealous. Humans' cognitive thinking and interactions are already hard and now that there are elves, dryads, and different more races, he couldn't just use his usual attitude-scan he's doing to read one's mind through their physical action. He just assumes for him to understand the magic of the world, he must also learn from those who wield such a complex concept. "Please, I really want to know more about you!" Arion landed his first card which is called puppy face and uses this to get what he wants. Possibly it worked on her girlfriend just for the act. Yet sadly, up to this point after dying and getting reincarnated, he still doesn't know her true name. It pretty sums it up but he just wanted to fathom behind Lilith's past as well as learning magic simultaneously hitting two birds in one stone. He didn't direct it to the point because he doesn't want to get ahead and be presumptuous all of a sudden. "I can control fire magic..." She bashfully said. "And?" He followed up and put her in pressure. "I..." Something's preventing her mouth from opening and that's where Adriel addressed the real issue. "Wait. Arion, if you want to know more about her, then don't further embarrass her current position." Adriel hinted. Not knowing what she meant, Arion gestured and inclined from where he was sitting after he sighed. "Hitting the landmine eh? Where did I go wrong?" He was being wary and his cautiousness led him from neglecting her emotional disposition. During his time on earth, no one could deny he is the smartest person alive and has surpassed the theoretical physicist who developed the theory of relativity. And his knowledge and wisdom are proportional to his humility as kindness is was what lead him to achieve his ideals and inventions. He believes in the concept that if humans work together, they shall acquire and reach something higher than heaven itself. Unquestionably he created revolutionary inventions, but it was all possible thanks to those who have helped him make the fantasy into reality. Up until now in a fantasy world where he was thrown, Arion can see Lilith's distress that she's undeniably experiencing hardships and worries. Getting the gist of the circumstances, Adriel beckoned him outside so they can talk privately without Lilith hearing them. "C'mon, this is important." She pulled him out of the seat since he was too absorbed from thinking too much. He stood up and followed her. "I know, so don't pull my favorite polka-dotted sweater!" "Such a weird sense of fashion." She remarked before closing the door leaving Lilith behind the room. "By the way, I certainly want to see your workshop." Deviating the main issue was not a wise choice for him. Things get messy if Adriel just starts explaining near the door. She pinched Arion's cheeks while dragging him at the end of the corridor where they can both receive the sunlight from the hinged glass-pane window. "Ouch! That hurts." Arion bickers. "Listen here. Do you especially accepted her as your companion?" Adriel's countenance was dead-serious. Her crimson red cornea seemed to be she had some sort of sore eyes, and for him, eye colors like this must be normal considering he saw some of the ladies back in the Guildhall before that have green and yellow eyes. It's pretty amazing for him from a different perspective. Before he answered her questions, he swiped the imaginary system that is attached to his line of sight and checked his party status. [ Companions ] [ Lilith Indelyen ] [ Adriel Induis ] [ ☐☐☐☐ (Name is hidden through concealing magic) ] The names appeared in front of his line of sight as they unfurl downward in order. His former girlfriend who is reincarnated with her is nowhere to be found and her name was still hidden through concealing magic. He just checked that Lilith was in fact his companions as simply as that. "Yeah, he is my companion. And even though I bought her to some random guy at the cost of 5,000 golds, I won't treat her as a slave." Arion's conviction was pure and true. "So you're not a pedophile and cared for her huh... I thought you were the same as those who treated her badly, including me..." Adriel turned around and averted her eyes. "Of course not! Well, that's that. I hope you get along with her since you're also mine." He was being friendly and offered his hands in a handshake. Her cheeks were red and she's skeptical at first but they shook hands nevertheless. "Just be wary when you're with her. I can't tell the full details behind everything so you need to figure out on your own." She was really concern about him. Arion couldn't help it and flickered her forehead that flinched her. " Be honest more! Though I shall take your advice right in my pocket." He found his first companions and he's committed to cherishing them until he can see the real reason why he was reincarnated in such a world. "You two were the same, though you are much worst." Lilith followed up before walking down the corridor. And then as Arion was going back to the room while remembering his previous sentences, she discerned something very wrong. "Wait." She said. "What?" He sounded awkward. "Did you just said earlier that you bought Lilith for 5,000 golds?!" Adriel widened her eyes in a surprise while gaping her mouth. "Yes. What's wrong with it?" Arion asked once more. "Don't you even know how much a single gold costs during these times? In the name of the Goddess, may he bless you more knowledge. On the other hand, if you truly wanted to save her, then it's all worth it." Adriel made it sound like golds are way more expensive than diamonds. "How much is 1 gold then?" Arion asked. Approximately seconds after, he also broadened his eyes upon realizing how much a single gold coin in this world could cost if it was converted in different values.
