27 The change in environment was immediate. One second we were in the cool, breezy forest outside my home, the next we were bombarded by heat and humidity. We were in a jungle that I was sure of, but I had no idea where in the world this jungle might be. There was a combination of plant life here I hadn’t seen in any nature documentaries. There were large plants that looked like little palm trees, big flowering bushes and beside them were tall trees draped in vines. It was as if the jungle was pressing against the edges of the clearing in which we stood. And there, before us, in a large open area, were more snake men than I could count. They were gathered in various stages of repose around a large lagoon. The edges of the pool were bright white sand that melted into the deep black water
