In annoyance, Terrence's nose breathes out of the fire like a bull as he is heading by the lift to the CEO's office. When he reached the floor James tried to stop him but he gently pushed him from blocking his way. Without knocking the door he entered the said office.
The nameplate immediately caught Terrence's attention when he entered the office room. DENVER MADRIGAL, CHIEF-EXECUTIVE-OFFICER states on the gold plated name plate. And behind that big name plate a young man sitting at the swivel chair busy with the papers in front of him did not even lift his head to check who barged in inside his office as if he expected this to happen.
"Mr Denver, Sir, may I have your attention, please. I didn't find any mistakes in this report paper that I sent to you. And if you find any mistakes at least you emphasize it so I can redo it, not just keep sending your assistant to tell me that there are some mistakes on it." Terrence bravely said what he wanted to say to the CEO.
"Mr Madrigal, I'm so sorry. I wasn't able to stop him from coming in." James apologetically bowing his head to Denver.
"It's alright James. You can leave and please close the door and don't let anyone come in." Denver said without taking his stares away from the papers on his table.
Terrence startled when he heard the CEO said to close the door, which means he is alone with him but he didn't show it to him that he is quite afraid. He maintained his confidence.
The young CEO then lifted his head and looked straight at Terrence's face. Terrence held his chest as soon as he saw his boss' face.
"What's the problem, Mr Saavedra?" He got up from his seat and walked in front of Terrence. He sat on the edge of the table facing him.
"Ha? Ah! Eh!" Terrence stuttered as he was stunned with the CEO's looks. "He is drop-dead gorgeous, my goodness!"
"Just now when you arrived here you're very confident but why are you suddenly stuttering? Hmmm?" Denver leaned forward to get his face closer to Terrence. Terrence stepped back and averted his face to the side to avoid Denver. Denver chuckled in his mind.
"Ah Sir, I said my report has nothing wrong with it. Why do you keep sending it back to me? Do you know how much time I spend reviewing it instead of doing other things?" He said as he got back to his composure and gained his confidence back.
"Oh, I see! Isn't it obvious that I wanted to see my new Marketing Director up close?" Denver smirked as he got down from sitting on the edge of his table and taking small steps forward towards Terrence who was also taking a step back.
"Now that you see me, can you please take these papers and I have to go back to my work?" Terrence handed the papers to Denver but he just ignored it and continued getting closer to Terrence.
"Why are you so afraid of Mr Saavedra? I'm not going to eat you." His lips curled up and mockingly smile.
Terrence took another step but he was caught off guard as he was already leaning at the back of the door.
"Sir please I have to go." Terrence begged him.
Denver caged him. "You have to do overtime with me tonight."
"But....."
"No more buts. Remember I'm your boss and you have to follow my command." Denver then goes back to his seat without taking the papers on Terrence's hand.
Terrence left dumbfounded and didn't think about what had happened a while ago until he almost fell when the door suddenly opened. James came in, throwing a smile towards him.
"James takes the papers from Mr Saavedra and brings them here."
"Mr Saavedra, can I have the papers please?" James voluntarily took the papers from Terrence's hand as he was still in a daze. "Mr Saavedra are you okay?"
"Ah, yes, yes!!" Terrence then titled his head gently to come back from his senses. "I need to go back to work." He held the doorknob then but halted when Denver spoke.
"Don't forget tonight, Mr Saavedra." Terrence didn't respond nor turned to see Denver with a face plastered with a mocking smile.
Lunchtime when the employees take turns to have lunch.
"Sir, you are not going out for lunch?" Allen pops his head at the door of Terrence's office.
"Nah! I need to finish what I am doing now." Terrence responded without even throwing a stare to his secretary. "I have my packed lunch with me so no worries. You can go have your lunch Allen."
Allen then left with other employees from their department to have lunch.
After thirty minutes Terrence's stomach was grumbling so he took out his packed lunch and started eating. He didn't notice a pair of eyes watching him from outside through the glass partition that separated his office from the cubicles under his department. He munched his packed Szechuan cold noodles hungrily while alternately doing his job on the computer.
He was startle when the phone rang next to him.
"Haist!" He is annoyed as he is the person who doesn't want to get interrupted when eating.
"Madrigal Corporation Marketing Director's office, hello?" He answered as he picked up the phone.
"Mr Saavedra, the CEO wanted to see you ASAP." He recognized James's voice from the opposite. His brows furrowed but before he could ask something the opposite line was cut off.
"What does he want again?" Terrence stood up from his seat leaving his food on his table and walked out from his office and went to the office of the CEO.
"Mr Saavedra, you can go to Mr Madrigal, who is waiting for you." James bowed his head and spread his arm motioning Terrence to go in but can see on his face that he is suppressing a smile.
"Is there anything urgent you need Mr Madrigal?" Terrence asked as he entered his boss office.
"Mr Saavedra, did you forget or did you ever read that eating lunch inside the office is prohibited?" The young CEO asked nonchalantly.
"Huh?!" Terrence was a bit surprised. "How did this guy know I'm eating lunch at the office." He thought.
"Don't attempt to deny it, Mr Saavedra, I have the evidence." The young CEO then stood up from his seat and walked in front of Terrence. He lifted his hand and tried to reach his face, the part which was just the side of his mouth.
"Omg! Is he going to touch my face?" Terrence was taken aback but Denver did touch his face but to take something from there.
Denver waved his hand in front of Terrence's face with a piece of about an inch of a noodle that he was eating a while ago.
"See? You brought me the evidence."
Terrence's face poured over tomato ketchup in embarrassment. He didn't realize there was a piece of noodle on his face. He froze and wasn't able to speak.
"Next time Mr Saavedra make sure not to take the evidence with you if you did something against me or my company." He said it in a funny tone but for Terrence, it's a serious offence as he didn't abide by the rule.
"I'm sorry Mr Madrigal. I am busy right now and I decided to eat in my office."
"Have dinner with me so I will forget what you did today." Denver responds firmly.
"But Mr......."
"No buts! You can go back to work now. At six pm, you must be ready." Denver then took his pen and continued what he was doing when Terrence came in.
Without asking permission Terrence left Denver's office stomping his feet slightly left Denver to smile. "So cute!" He mumbled.
At the Marketing Department.
Everyone was back from having lunch and started their work as usual.
"Hey guys, listen! Do you know that when all of you went out for lunch, the CEO came in here?" Everyone was shocked by what they heard. It's strange for them to see their CEO go to the other department. His routine is he will go straight to his office when he arrives in the morning and go down again when going home but it's rare for him to go through the main entrance. Most of the time he will go straight to the basement and take the lift from there to his office and vice versa. The reason why most of their employees, especially the new ones, didn't see his face in person.
"Really?" Most of them reacted in unison, even men were curious and they all gathered closer to the cubicle of the employee who witnessed Denver visit their department.
"Yes! And he is looking at the new Marketing Directors office and smiling like an idiot."
"Smiling?!" Everyone exclaimed in unison. They all know that their young boss is known for having a cold personality, and doesn't waste time smiling or talking to other people.
"But wait, you said he is looking at MD's office so he is looking at Mr Saavedra?"
"You got it, Allen!"
"Whoah!" Everyone looked at each other like they had one thing on their mind. They were about to say something when Terrence came.
"What commotion is this? We are all here to work during working hours not to gossip." He said as he went to Allen's table.
"Sir, is there anything you need?"
"Allen, I saw you from my office. What are these employees talking about?"
Allen scratched his nape and hesitated to answer.
"Allen, I will ask the CEO to change my secretary." He gave Allen a threatening look.
"Ah eh, Sir. Someone saw Mr CEO that came here in our department during lunch break and looked at your office."
"What?!" Terrence reacted in a very loud voice and made all the people on the floor stand up in their seats in nervousness. They thought Terrence was mad.
"Sorry! You all can go back to work." He motioned them to sit down.
"Then what happened?" He almost whispered to Allen.
"He just stands there for a couple of minutes and goes back to his office but he only looks at your office. And according to those who saw him. He is smiling looking at you."
"Oh my goodness!" He covered his mouth so he won't disturb his subordinates again with his reaction.
"No wonder!"
"Why Sir?"
"Nothing! Nothing!"
"Ah, Sir do you need anything that's why you came out here?"
"Ah yes, yes!" But he was frozen as he forgot after what all he heard from Allen. "Oh s**t! I can't remember."
"Just tell me Sir if you'll remember." Allen was restraining himself from laughter as he found it funny for him Terrence's reaction.
5 p.m.
"Baby, Daddy can't pick you up okay?"
"Why?"
"Daddy needs to work overtime."
"Is your boss paying you enough for overtime? What did he ask you to do for overtime?" Sheldon asked.
Terrence's eyes rolled as he heard his son. He knows Sheldon will ask about it but he cannot lie as his son is very smart.
"My boss asked me for dinner."
"Is it a business dinner? If not, you must come home. It's not decent to have dinner with your boss. I don't want to stay with Uncle Dexter again. He is so boring."
"Sheldon, baby please be nice to Uncle Dexter. He helped us a lot, you know that."
"Okay fine! He's better than when I'm alone again eating my favourite smashed cucvmber."
"Okay baby, see you tonight when I'm home."
“Don't come home too late, Dad. I'll be waiting."
"Sure baby. I love you?"
"I love you too, Daddy!"
And they both hang up the call.
"Girlfriend?" Terrence jumped off in surprise and held his chest when he heard the voice. He didn't notice when someone got inside his office as he was engrossed talking to Sheldon.
"Ah Sir, you're here I thought 6 pm?"
"I just dropped by to check with you to make sure you're going with me later."
"Ah okay!"
He was about to say something when his boss turned his back towards the door.
"At 6 o'clock sharp." Denver said before he opened and get out. Terrence left dumbfounded.
"What happened to him? Suddenly appeared then left just like that? He is weird!!"
While Denver. "Is he talking to his girlfriend? And they called each other "baby?" He thought as he only heard the last words of Terrence before he hung up the call when he barged into his office unnoticed.
6 p.m.
Terrence is ready to go as his boss told him.
"Mr Saavedra, you're ready?" James asked as soon as he came out from his office.
Terrence was surprised. "Omg! His assistant also is weird like him. Suddenly appeared. Tsk!" He thought.
"I'm sorry Mr Saavedra, Mr Madrigalasked me to pick you up." James said bowing his head as Terrence looked at him in surprise.
"It's okay, let's go."
And they both went downstairs to the basement where the car park is. James then quickly opened the car door to the passenger seat for Terrence.
"Wait I have my car."
"Just give me your key Mr Saavedra I can ask someone to send it to your house." Terrence managed to buy a second-hand car before he started to work so it was not difficult for him to shuttle Sheldon to school and go to his work.
"Ah okay!"
"Can get in now, Mr Saavedra. Mr Madrigal doesn't like the idea of waiting so long." James said as he gave way to Terrence to go inside the car.
"Thank you!" And he gets in without looking to his side.
"Ahem!" Terrence was surprised again when he heard someone next to his seat. When he turned his gaze he saw his boss smirking at him.
"How many times will he surprise me like this? I may have a heart problem after a few months working in his company."
"Are you thinking about your girlfriend?" Denver asked when they were on their way to the hotel where the said dinner was.
"Nothing, Sir!" Terrence responds without taking away his gaze from outside the car window.
The dusk is now slowly creeping, changing the colour of the sky, the street lamps have been lit indicatingL the night is coming.
They arrived at the hotel after a thirty minutes drive.
"Wait! Is this the hotel......aaahhh nevermind that was long ago." He then followed his boss behind with James. According to his boss, they're going to meet an investor.
They went straight to a fine dining restaurant situated inside the hotel.
"This way, Sir!" The lady receptionist guided them as she saw Denver.
"He seems to be known to this hotel." Terrence thought as they hadn't approached the lady but she immediately offered to guide them.
She leads them to one of the private rooms of the restaurant.
Terrence felt familiar with the room. "Isn't it the room we rented before?" He thought.
"Are you okay, Mr Saavedra?" James asked as he noticed Terrence being uneasy and looking around weirdly.
"Yes, I'm fine." Denver quietly observed him.
The dinner meeting went well with so much help from Terrence. He is the one who was able to convince the said investor to invest in Madrigal Corporation. Denver was so impressed with his new Marketing Director. He was amazed.
"We're going to send you off to your house." Denver said as they are heading out of the restaurant.
"I'm okay Sir. Thank you but I can take a cab from here."
"I insist!" Denver said firmly.
Terrence didn't argue anymore. He followed them to the car park.
While on their way to his residence his thoughts drifted to what had happened six years ago at that hotel.
