Dodd came out of the building and saw Mary driving in. At first, he looked inside her car and saw her driving alone, his anger starting to rise, thinking his men had disobeyed a direct order. Then he looked up and saw two cars with four men each trailing at some distance, so he breathed easy, knowing Mary must have given them hell. He stood back and watched as. Mary alighted her car, opened up the rear door, and then got out her stuff, walking briskly towards the building. She was almost at the front door before she glanced up and saw him, Dodd could see. the beginning of a smile in her eyes, but it was immediately extinguished as she got closer. He could sense her anger and the way she. stiffened her spine, walking straighter than before, told him he had done something wrong.
