When I came to, I noticed that I was in my room. The familiar walls surrounding me. My head was buzzing with all the alcohol I had consumed in the past days. My body hurts like hell. My mind replayed what happened when I got injured. I gritted my teeth as pain shot through me when I tensed. Rodney will f*****g pay for what he did. I don't give a f**k whether he's my stepfather or not. I'll f*****g kill him. He's been f*****g up my life ever since mom died. Thank God she left everything in my name. Otherwise I'd be homeless and probably dead. It's quite clear he's after my mother's wealth. My f*****g inheritance. I remember there were three guys who beat me up a few days ago. I had two of their name. Jason didn't learn a f*****g lesson. I should have just killed him. I hissed when I felt pain again. I looked to my sides for pills. Benji must have placed some for me. I spotted the bottle and tried to sit up. I grabbed my phone after I had taken the pill. I looked through the endless missed calls. I'm surprised I didn't lose it. I didn't have any energy to go through the messages either. Mike won't f*****g stop calling. I caught sight of the picture frame on my nightstand and felt the familiar tug in my chest. Nessa. My daughter. She would have been turning four this year, in December. That bastard killed my baby. He made me watch as he killed my little princess. I'll get her justice one day. I won't rest until I do. I don't care whether Rodney is Mike's father or not. We're cool as bros, but he knows I don't f**k with his father. That man took so much from me. I froze when I heard shifting around the room and a heavy breath. Looking around, I saw someone had occupied my favorite spot in the corner of the room. I recognized the dirty blonde hair under my blanket. "Katherine?" The word tumbled out of my lips as I looked at her. She's sleeping so peacefully. Fuck I wasn't dreaming about seeing her. She saved my life. My days worth of injuries would have surely ended my life if it weren't for her. And she's in my f*****g room. Oh my God. Fuck. I shifted, gripping my pants as I hardened. I wondered why she's been ignoring me lately. I can't help but miss our little banter. In a way, she reminded me of my daughter. Nessa always had something to say. And she was cheeky. I liked that about her. Even though I would have protected her with all that I have, I know she would have given the boys a hard time. There's not a day where I don't think about her. At times, I still find myself wandering around the toy stores looking for unicorns and teddies. They were her favorites. I watched Katherine for some time, admiring her. She's a beauty indeed. Beauty and the brains. Despite her weight, she looked so tiny snuggled in my sofa. I wonder why she chose to sleep there. I'm not complaining though. I mean, I wouldn't mind waking up to that beautiful face every morning. I was aware how much she was insecure about her body. If only she knew what I saw. f**k, she was thick with an hourglass shape. Nevermind that, she had to be the cutest thing I've seen in a long time. I've caught myself wanting to cuddle her sometimes. I just want to touch her, feel her body against mine. Her weight means nothing to me. I'm buff and I can handle her. I sighed, my c**k throbbing painfully in my pants. What a way to get myself excited. I mean, I have a thing for chubby girls. I can't help myself. I dragged my legs to the edge of the bed, wincing from the pain. I walked over to her. As much as I liked watching her snuggled in my spot, looking all cute and cosy, she must feel uncomfortable. I sat down on the edge of the sofa, wanting to look at her for a few more seconds. Her cheeks were smooshed by the pillow, her pink lips pouty and little snores coming out. I moved to tug a strand of hair away from her face. She stirred, purring softly. Fuck that sound. She moved, opening her eyes slowly. When she saw, she let out a yelp, sitting up and recoiled. She gripped the blanket closer to her chest, heaving as she looked at me. I ignored the strange tugging feeling settling in the pits of my stomach. "I was just about to wake you up," I said to her. "Didn't Benji prepare a room for you?" I inquired. Her breathing had slowed but she was still tense. Perhaps I make her nervous. "He did," she said softly, her eyes shying away from mine as the familiar rosy color grace her cheeks. "Do you want to sleep on the bed?" I asked her, tilting my head in amusement. "I would have carried you but..." I trailed off, looking down at myself. She followed my line of vision. "Doctor said to stay in bed," she whispered softly. She stood up then. I sucked in a sharp breath when my eyes landed on her bare thighs. She had on a big shirt. I looked back up at her when she quickly covered herself up with the blanket. She walked away. "Wait," I stood up, frowning. I clutched my stomach when the pain intensified. She stopped but didn't turned around. "Are you mad at me or something?" I asked her. I waited for her to turn around. I waited for her to say something. Anything. Hell, if she yelled at me right now, I'd embrace it more than the silent treatment she was giving me. "Katherine, talk to me. Did I do something?" I asked walking over to her. "I-I have to go," she let out shakily. Is she crying? "Katherine, wait," she hurried out without a single glance at me. I sighed, getting more confused. I don't understand. Is there something I did? I ringed for Benji to come up. As much as I hate it, I need help with these stupid bandages. I can't really shower with them. After I was finished and very much instructed and scolded, I settled with grey sweatpants and nothing else. Benji came back to do the dressing. "f**k Benji, that stings," I gritted my teeth when he applied ointment on my wounds. "Sorry, Mr Norway. You brought this on yourself," he said working on covering up now. I rolled my eyes at his words. He was always speaking his mind. He wasn't one to sugarcoat the truth. That's what I liked about him. At times, it was annoying. "What happened yesterday when I came here?" I decided to ask him. "What do you mean?" He asked, his eyes fleeking to mine for a split second. "Katherine. Did something happen that upset her?" "Katherine?" He frowned. "Yeah, the one who's here," I said. "Oh," he said realizing. "She didn't say much. I guess she's not much of a talker. Though she did ask if it was safe here," he said. Safe? "Why would she ask that?" I frowned. This was making my head hurt. It made no f*****g sense to me. "I don't know, good sir. Did you tell her about your previous job?" He asked me, eyeing me sideways. Shit. "No, I didn't," I said. I honestly don't remember telling her about my life in general. "You think she knows? She's been distancing herself lately." "You've known Miss Katherine for a while?" I nodded. "Mmh, perhaps you should talk to her. It's better if she tells you herself," he said. "I'm done. I'll go and get your food," he walked out. "I'm coming downstairs, Benji," I let him know. "Oh but you're to stay in bed," he said. "I know I can't do much, let alone go anywhere. The least ya'll can do is let me walk around my house," I said. Benji pursed his lips, eyeing. I smirked, knowing I won the case. He left without another word. Slowly, I started descending the stairs. Every step was a jab to my wounds. I'm pretty sure the stitches are about to come undone. My eyes landed on Katherine who was pacing in the dining area with a phone. I stopped to look at her. "Collins, it's not like that," she said softly. Why is she talking so low? "It's not- will you stop saying that. Chase is not my boyfriend. I was just helping him," Oh. I must listen to this. "I told you. I found him by the Ultra City and he was hurt. I drove him to his house and I stayed till late and ended up sleeping here. I'm going anyway, my mom's getting on my nerves," she seethed. I looked at her outfit. She had on a long flowy sundress. It swished around as she moved. It was strappy and showed her shoulders and a little bit of her back. The dress was navy with white roses littering the fabric. She had tied her hair up in a messy bun. Reserved and cute. "No she doesn't know. My phone battery died last night. That's why I wasn't able to pick up," she said. "No and stop saying that. He's not a bad person," she whispered harshly. "Well, no. That's not the point." She said. "I have to go. My mom wants me home," she sighed before hanging up. I walked the rest of the staircases and finally earned her attention. Except that, I freaked her out. She yelped, dropping her phone. She clutched her chest, trying to calm herself down. "You scared me," she said looking at me. She picked up her phone and looked at it, cussing quietly. "I'll get you a new one," I said, assuming the screen broke. She eyed me, a deep scowl on her face. "I didn't ask for one," her harsh tone took me by surprise. She averted her eyes before I could decipher what the matter was. I sighed, not knowing what else to do. "Katherine, how am I supposed to fix whatever the problem is, if you won't talk to me?" I asked her softly. "You can't fix it," she said. I was about to say something but Benji beat me to it. "Miss Katherine, breakfast is ready," "I was just leaving," she said her eyes on me. I wondered what color were her eyes. They were a light shade of blue. A rare but gorgeous color. "At least have some food before you leave. You did say you have a long drive home," Benji pressed, eyeing me sideways. Katherine turned to Benji and nodded, walking to sit down. "Thank you Benji," she said softly. This is harder than I thought it would be. ● I watched as Katherine left my house, without looking back at me. I'm wrecking my brain trying to figure out what could have angered her, but I can't come up with one thing. "So that's the Katherine you've been talking about, huh?" Mike said, settling down on the couch next to me. It bounced, making me wince. "You have a thing for her or something?" He asked. "When did I give you the right to be nosy in my damn business?" I eyed him sideways. My mood had changed drastically and he wasn't helping. "And stop moving so much, damn," I said as he continued moving the couch. "What happened to you?" He asked, turning serious. "Where have you been?" "Rodney sent his motherfuckers on me while I was at Joe's. I've been trying to get to get to Zach," I told him. "No s**t," he said his eyes alert. "Why would he sent people on you?" "Isn't it obvious? Jason came to tell me that Rodney wants me back on business. I refused and he sent his little minions on me," I gritted my teeth. "Zach is talking about how this could backfire if I don't cooperate. They got records on me. I could get arrested," I huffed. I have no other f*****g choise but to do what that fucker wants. It pisses me the f**k off. "What's Zach's job if he can't make the records disappear?" He frowned. "He's working on it. In the meantime, I'm supposed to cooperate," "Do you want to?" Mike's brow raised in question. "Are you f*****g with me or something? I don't want to do this no more. I can't stand that man," I gritted my teeth. "It won't be long," he said. "We can do this for as long as Zach wants us to," Mike said. "What's the worst that could happen?" "Are you dumb? There's no 'we' here. I'm doing this on my own. And it's only a matter of time before I kill him," I said, the thought of that thrills me. I looked at Mike to see a frown settling in his face. He understands how much I hate his father and there's nothing he can do about that. "I'm not letting you do this alone," he said after some time. "You're not going to get all the fun," he cracked a smile. "Suit yourself," I said getting back to my phone. I tried calling Katherine, but she won't pick up. I'll wait until after 3 hours. She's probably still on the road. f**k I don't even know where she lives. "I'm going to my room. Tell Benji to bring my lunch," I stood up and walked away. I might as well go sleep since I have nothing to do. I would do my assignment, but ever since I started studying with Katherine, things haven't been the same. My phone rang when I was starting to drift to sleep. I sat up to fast and hurt my abdomen. "f**k," I gritted my teeth and answered quickly, not carrying to look at the Caller ID. "Hello?" "Hi Chase, it's Zach," My excitement deflated. I thought it was Katherine. "What?" I rubbed the sore spot absentmindedly. "Whoa? You sound disappointed. Were you expecting someone else?" Zach inquired. "What do you want?" I asked. "I got something for you," he said heading straight to business. "You won't like this," he added. "I don't like anything you tell me. What could possibly be the difference?" I snapped. "I'm coming over to your house," he said before hanging up. "What a way to ruin my sleep," I grumbled under my breath and laid back down. Zach came over to my house minutes later. Benji went on ahead to get drinks. "This is water," I said to Benji, raising the glass to him in confusion. "Yes?" He said. "Are you going to make me drink water?" I arched a brow at him. "No alcohol for you until you're all healed up," he said. My mouth gaped. "Benji, I'm in pain. Are you going to let me suffer?" He gave me a bored look. "It helps with pain," I tried to reason with him. He still wasn't having it. Instead, he handed me the bottle of painkillers he had with him. I huffed out, grumbling under my breath. You can never win with Benji. "What happened to you?" Zach asked me, eyeing my bandages. "Ran into the wrong group," I said not wanting to explain myself. I wasn't in the mood. Mike proceeded to explain in details and I tuned him out. Fuck, I haven't been in the mood lately. I can't believe I'm wallowing in despair because of some girl. Fuck, Katherine's not some girl. She's more. Well, I want her to be more. "Chase?" I snapped out of my Katherine induced trance and looked up at Zach and Mike. "Can you give me the names?" He asked. "Jono, Stone and some other dude that I don't know," I said. "He had a scorpion on the side of his face," "Doug," Mike muttered. We turned to look at him. "I've seen him a couple of times in my father's office," he said. "Right, thank you for the information," Zach said. "We have a problem. I have two things I want to discuss with you. First of, the Will," he took out papers on his bag. "Now, I'm aware that your mother left her money to only three people to only three people. You, Michael and Vanessa," I ignored the familiar tug in my chest at the sound of my baby's name. "Wait, what?" Mike looked up, frowning. "Are you talking about me?" "Yes, you Michael Jones," Zach said. "Why?" I rolled my eyes at that. "She was married to your father and took you as her son," Zach said. Mike didn't say anything to that. He never had a problem with my mom, which was a good thing. Otherwise I would have blown his brain out for treating her like trash. I, on the other hand, hated Rodney's guts from the beginning. He knew that too. "Anyways, I know Vanessa's money goes to you Chase, since she's no more," he said softly. "Get to the point, Zach," I don't want to be reminded that my daughter's dead. I live through that s**t every f*****g day. "Rodney managed to bridge the will. He got some of the money, through him. He's taking his trust funds," "What?" I sat up and winced. "I found documents in his office. He's been trying to forge the new Will to get the money. At the moment, he has..." he paged through the pages. "R3 Million," he said. "The state can't do anything about it because Michael was under Rodney's name when she made this will," he said. "What you need to do, is head to the offices and correct that. Well, if that's what you want to do. I just thought you should know what's going on," he said. "What's the other thing?" I asked him. "I have a new lead on your mother's death," he said. He had my attention instantly. "It wasn't an accident," he shook his head. "The brakes were loose. I've already checked with the mechanics and they confirmed it." "Someone killed her," Mike whispered under his breath, his eyes widening. "s**t," he let out. I can guess who it is. That motherfucker did it. He killed my mother. "f**k!" I threw the glass across the room. It landed on the wall and shattered to pieces, the water dripping. Benji rushed in, eyes wide. He eyed the glass and then me. "What do you want me to do, Chase?" Zach inquired softly. I turned to him, my chest heaving. "Find the bastard that killed my mother," I said. I was seeing red. He's going to pay. I'll make sure he pays. I'll be damned if I let him roam this earth freely. I needed blood. Images of my mother crushed under the car invaded my mind, fuelling up my anger. I stood up and left, heading to my room. I thought about all the ways I was going to make that person pay. I have to think this through. I tossed and turned on the couch, my mind racing. A migraine was fast approaching. I focused on Nessa's picture on my bedside table and willed myself to calm down. There was a knock on my door. I looked to see Mike peeking in, looking around. When he saw me, he came in carrying a tray of food. "I'm not hungry," I mumbled. "You have medicine to take," he said placing the tray on the small table by the window. "Man, f**k medicine," He sat down next to my feet. He was quite hesitant, I could tell. "Sorry about your mom," he said. "I think we all know who did it," I said watching his reaction. He only nodded. "Well, I can't tell you what to do. She was your mom and...you want justice for her-" "Damn right I do," I said. "Just...think about this before you do anything," he said. "You know what happens when you do things out of anger," he said looking at me. "I'll never hear the end of that," I rolled my eyes. He cracked a smile. "Nope," he said. Shortly after he left, I ate, knowing Benji will be on my case. My stubbornness is no match to his and I'd rather force myself to eat than face his wrath. He's like f*****g mother hen. I laid there with my phone. I decided to check out i********: to kill time, seeing as I wasn't going to fall asleep anytime soon and there was nothing else I could do. I scrolled through until I came across Katherine's post. He posted it a couple hours ago. She was in the very same dress that she wore today. Without a second thought, I called her probably for like a thousand times. I crossed my fingers as it rang. "Hi, Katherine here. I'm not available at the moment. Please leave a message and I'll get back to you. *beep*" "Hi Katherine," I said without a second thought. "Listen, whatever I did, I'm sorry, okay? Can we talk about it?" I was desperate and I didn't give a f**k. "Call me. I just want to hear your voice," I sighed, my voice deflated. "Please?" ● UNEDITED *sigh* why the hell is Katherine being so hard on poor Chase.?it's so sad.
