As instructed by Barney, Ginesh and Nancy increased the doses of the drug, but they were careful to do it in small increments, no more than 5 percent at any one time. They tried out the dose increases on the rats first; when no adverse effects were observed, they switched the increased dose to humans.
At the end of eight weeks, they had upped the dosage by 40 percent but kept it to once a day. So far they had noted no side effects; however, this was on rats only. At this point, they had increased human doses by only 10 percent.
After reporting this to Barney, he wanted them to begin human trials but Nancy fought hard to stall that, wanting to stick to animal testing for the present.
