Chapter 9
Any hope Megan and Lucy had for hearing the rest of Sammy’s story right then and there was shattered when the dogs started barking and they heard Aiden and Paul talking while they walked around the patio. As soon as Sammy heard their voices, she stopped talking and picked up Gypsy. Holding her close, she put her face into the dog’s fur as if to hide from the men coming through the door.
The men could tell instantly something had just happened, but seeing a slight shake of Megan’s head they said nothing. Instead they acted casual, saying good morning to everybody, and Paul walked over to stand in front of Sammy. He waited until she looked up from the dog before he smiled at her.
