CHAPTER 6~Awkward~

        I had taken a wrong turn after leaving the restroom, I didn't mind the walk though. I ended up in the inner garden of the shrine. The garden was beautiful in the moonlight. I walked over the bridge and sat on the bench under the gazebo. I heard feet approaching so I looked behind me, peering out the tiny window. A woman in white was sitting on a rock near the pond. I could hear her crying softly. 

     Well s**t. That's my cue to leave, hopefully she won’t notice me creeping towards the exit. The cool breeze blew and I caught Devlin's scent before he walked into the clearing. I watched him walk over the bridge and storm towards the woman. "Why did you run from me?" I heard his angry voice ring out. The woman said something, her voice was soft and low, even with my heightened hearing I couldn't catch what she said. “ARE YOU REJECTING ME?!” Devlin roared. Wait, what? That woman was the Alpha’s mate?  Holy s**t! He found her, he finally found her. I was ecstatic for him. He was my brother and my Alpha; he deserved every bit of happiness. Especially after what that b***h, Marie, did to him.

      My thoughts were interrupted when I heard footsteps approaching the gazebo. I looked out again, f**k, they were right there. I looked around trying to find my escape route. The gazebo only had one door and it was where Dev and his mate were standing. If I tried to leave now, they would see me. I sat down in defeat knowing that I’m going to have to wait this out.

     I heard the Luna moan. Well, this is awkward. Her sounds became louder and I felt my cheeks warm up. He wouldn’t be doing that here would he? “I can smell you, mate, I wonder how you taste.” Well damn, Devlin was bold as hell. “So f*****g sweet,” Delvin said, and I wanted throw up. What the f**k were they doing? The Luna suddenly shouted, making me jump. The wall started to thump, the Luna’s moans came out faster and I covered my ears in embarrassment. I wasn’t a virgin but listening to your Alpha and Luna f**k was the equivalent to walking in on your parents.

     I heard Devlin roar, shaking the gazebo. Thank the goddess it was over, I'm confident that I was going to have nightmares. I don’t think I’ll be able to look Dev in the eye for at least a week. "I cannot reject you, but like you said, I can't accept you. You may have your reasons to not want me, but I also have mine. One night together is all I have to offer you. From today forward, let's never see each other again." WHAT THE f**k? He’s leaving her after he f*****g her? I couldn’t believe he was serious about not having a mate. How could he do this to the pack? How could he do this to her? 

      I’m f*****g livid. That bastard has no idea what he’s done. I could hear his footsteps recede; the Luna's quiet sobbing filled the air. Stepping out of the gazebo, I slowly walked towards her. Her back stiffened, letting out a low growl when she heard my approach. “My Luna,” I said, bowing my head to her, displaying my respect. “I am no one’s Luna,” she said quietly. 

        I raised my head and examined her. My Luna was beautiful even in her disheveled state. Her hazel eyes were red, filled with tears. Her lips were swollen and she was clutching her dress to her chest. I unbuttoned my shirt and handed it to her. She accepted it, and I looked away while she put it on.

    “Luna, I am your Beta, my nam-” “No! Do not tell me your name!” she shouted. “Yes Luna.” “Stop calling me Luna!”. “Well, since I don't know your name, Luna is all I have to call you.” She glared at me, “I already told you that I am not a Luna.” I shook my head, “No matter how much you deny it, you know it is true.” 

        She eyed me suspiciously, “What do you mean?” “Werewolf law dictates that if an Alpha finds his mate and fully mates with her, she is automatically his Luna, regardless if he marks her.” Her eyes widened and I continued, “Once he has mated her, no other female can assume the role, unless she dies.” Dev seriously f****d up, and there was nothing I could do to help him. Luna jerked her head, pursing her lips together, clearly not happy with the news.

     “Gimme your phone.” I said. She narrowed her eyes but reached in her tiny purse that was laying on the ground, handing the phone to me. I put in my number saving it under My Beta. I handed it back and told her not to delete it. “My Beta?” she asked, confused. “Yes, I am your Beta. Part of my role as Beta is to know our laws and enforce them. I do not approve of my Alpha’s decision to leave you, but I will not disobey him.” I said, kneeling down on one knee, closing my fist over my heart. “You are my Luna, and it is my duty to serve and protect you. If you ever need help, I will come to you.” I vowed to her. She nodded, placing her hand over her heart too. She couldn’t officially accept me as her Beta since she didn't know my name, but she mirrored the hand gesture, giving me her blessing. 

      I stood and bowed one last time, “Be safe Luna.” “Thank you, my Beta,” she replied softly, a small smile on her lips. I took my leave and exited the garden. I took my phone out to call Devlin. “Where are you?” I demanded, “I’m back at the hotel,” he replied, his voice sounded thick. “I’ll be there soon; we have a lot to discuss.”  I hung up, walking towards the hotel.

Lotus

       My sisters found me shortly after I watched my Beta walk away. They were hysterical after seeing my appearance. It took me twenty minutes to calm them down, reassuring them that I wasn't physically hurt. They helped me to my feet, walking towards our taxi. Back at the bnb, we decided to go to the bath house down the street, I promised them I’d tell them everything.

   Lila paid at the front desk while Lily helped me to the changing room. They both helped me undress and I walked to the showers. Lila got to work, washing my hair, and Lily helped me wash my body. I walked over to the bath and sat down, waiting for them to finish and join me. 

     Lily sat down on my left while Lila sat to my right. “So, tell us what happened.” Lily said. Thankfully, we were the only ones here and I didn’t have to reveal my worst and greatest night to strangers. 

      I told them everything, with tears running down my face. I told them how my mate’s voice made my heart rumble, and how his hands set my skin on fire. I told them how he had brought me ecstasy then promptly shattered my heart. I could still see his face, his eyes cold. How could such harsh words come from those pillow soft lips? Lastly, I mentioned my encounter with the Beta and what he revealed.

     The twins were sobbing with me, clutching my hands. “We’re so sorry,” Lila said, while Lily bobbed her head. “We knew that walking away from a mate was going to be hard, but we didn’t know the pain of the heart ache would be unbearable.” continued Lila. I cried harder, letting my tears cloud my vision. I pulled my sisters in closer. I cried for my broken heart and my lost mate. I cried for my sisters, for their future heart breaks. I knew they would have to live through the same thing when they found their mates, this was a pain I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
