Seven a Penny.
“Well f**k! How was I supposed to know it would take a damn month or more to get stupid scratch ticket winnings? This is such a f*****g drag.” We had made our way back to my apartment, and I had called the lottery place on the back of the ticket to find out how to go about getting the winnings. It was quite the process and would take a while before we’d see any of the winnings. “Well, how much do you have saved up Avi? We might still be able to do some celebrating with that.”
I looked shocked at him, even if I did get the winnings in due time. I wasn’t about to spend my savings all willy nilly just to appease him. “Like I’m going to squander my EMERGENCY savings so you can go and party!” I slapped the three tickets down on the small coffee table in the living room.
“Why not? It’s not like you won’t get your money back. Com’on! When’s the last time you loosened this body of yours Avi.” Devi had taken hold of my hips and shook me from side to side.
The small contact almost had me bending to his will, his copper eyes teasing me. I could feel my face flush with a burning heat. “D-don’t do that!” I pushed his hands from my hips.
“Gawd you’re such a fuckin’ square!” Devi threw his hands in the air as he spoke. “Tell me, when’s the last time you went out and had some fun. Tell me!” He pointed one of his long slender fingers at me.
“I-I don’t know… I’m trying to save for a comfortable retirement. It’s not madness to want that!” I retorted.
“Every-fuckin’-thing when you have me around!” Devi came close cupping my cheeks in his hands, it sent the hot sensation from my cheeks waving through my body. “Listen Avi, as long as you have me. You don’t have to worry about anything. Let’s go out. Let’s drink. Let’s have some f*****g fun!” His mesmerizing copper eyes had my knees going weak, as I was forced to look at them only inches away from me. It was hard to resist him.
My lips parted and I caved into his pleading words. “Okay…” I whispered. “Let’s go out.”
“f*****g rights! Let’s party tonight!!” Devi gathered me in his arms in excitement. “First tho, we need to get you out of these nerdy ass clothes!”
I looked down at myself with a button down shirt and tweed pants, I didn’t think I looked half bad. “I’m smartly dressed… I don’t think I look that bad.”
“You look like your ready to be someone’s b***h at a Star Trek convention, and it isn’t pretty.” Devi hopped down the hallway to the front door and called out to me. “Hurry the f**k up and get your ass over here! Let’s get this motha-fuckin’-show on the road!”
“... What have I gotten myself into?”
---
It didn’t take long for Devi to play dress up with me. He even had to pick a very pricey store to get us clothes from. In the end I was wearing well fitted jeans and a loose, deep v-neck t-shirt. The copper eyed devil had even made me get new shoes. “My loafers where fine… and soo comfy.” I whispered under my breath.
“What?” Devi spun around showing off his new threads. “Tell me I look amazing. Never mind, I already know I do. Look.” He pointed over to some girls that had been looking in our direction and giggled when Devi had pointed them out. “We got ladies swooning over us already.” He grabbed my shoulders. “Now, we just need to do something about that hair of yours. I mean you’re pretty cute with the shaggy look already, but maybe a messy slick back? Or just fluff it a bit… f**k I really want to get rid of your damn glasses. Let’s see.” He pulled my glasses from my face and I began to protest, but was stopped when he grabbed my face and examined me with a stern look.
Even without my glasses I was still stunned by those copper eyes. I felt hopeless. “I-I can’t see Devi… give me my glasses back, please.” I felt sheepish without them on, like I had lost some of my armour; but Devi didn’t listen, he pushed my hair up and back.
“Hmm… never mind. Keep your glasses on and hair down. No one else needs to see that.” Devi handed me back my glasses, and turned to continue looking through clothes. I looked at the back of him, his white shirt was tightly fitted on his muscled body and his pants were no better. I felt my face flush as my thoughts started to stray.
“Gee thanks, you really know how to stroke a man’s ego.” If he kept this up, I don’t think the night would end well for either of us.
“Yeah, yeah. What time is it?”
I looked down at my watch, “Just about eight thirty.”
“Perfect, let’s get some pre-drinks in.” Once again before I could put up any protest, I was being pulled off into the early night by Devi.
---
We had stopped at a small pub close by and Devi kept feeding me shots, I could already feel the booze kicking in. The soft buzz flowed through my body, and I felt myself becoming happy and not caring about what had taken place in the past couple of days. I listened to the blended chatter of people as they enjoyed themselves into the late night. Only an hour had passed since Devi spoke of pre-drinks, and at this rate I wasn’t sure how long I would last. I was happy just sitting here, downing drinks, but I was sure Devi had other plans to enjoy himself.
“Alright, so it looks like you’re hitting your limit. So let’s get going to some place that has more upbeat music.” Devi had grabbed my waist and spun me around, it was making that light buzzing feeling feel more intense. I couldn’t help grabbing onto him to get my footing steady again.
“N-nooo, don’t spin me like that.” The glimmer of his copper eyes caught me and I couldn’t help the words that flowed from my mouth next. “You know your eyes remind me of pennies. Their so captivating… I love it. It’s like-It’s like you’re a living penny.” I gave him a goofy grin.
“It’s because I am, you dumbass.” Devi grabbed me like he was ready to waltz with me.
Even though he was calling me names, it didn’t put a damper on how I felt right now. I was riding that alcoholic buzz right now and nothing was going to get in the way of that.
As Devi pulled me through the sea of people, into the fresh air and down the street like he knew where he was going. I felt the rush of the past couple of days hit me. Maybe all this was meant to be, I had been collecting pennies for years and now my unique obsessions lead to this crazy asshat of a man.
I was trying to keep pace with Devi and his long legs, but my footing was starting to miss step and I felt myself fumbling behind.
“Hey, what the hell are you doing? We have a few more blocks before we get to the club.” Devi was standing a few feet away from me as I grabbed my knees and felt the world spin around me. Maybe it was the fresh air? The crazy speed Devi was taking us? I wasn’t sure, but I wasn’t enjoying myself right now. “Fuuuuuck… fine.” He walked towards me and pulled me up by my arm, leading me over to a bus bench to sit down on. “Give me a minute, I’ll be right back.”
Before I could tell him not to leave me, he was gone. I was left to sit on the bus stop bench alone and spinning. I sat back looking up at the darkened sky, but was quickly taken by surprise with someone slapping something cool on my forehead.
“There, you should be okay in a few minutes.” It was Devi slapping me with something.
“What-what did you put on me.” I asked still dizzy.
“Just something that will make your drunk dizziness go away.” Devi’s arm draped over my shoulder pulling me close to him. It almost felt nice, and honestly the cool tingling feeling washing over me was making me feel like I wasn’t spinning again.
“This stuff is really working Devi.” I looked up at Devi, he was gorgeous… beyond anything I could’ve imagined… bound to me as long as I chose to keep his penny. I rested my head on his shoulder, enjoying this moment and watching the people pass us by.
---
I was happy for whatever Devi had sapped on my forehead, I was feeling so much better and was able to keep my footing as we walked the last little way to the club Devi wanted to go to. I could hear the loud thumping music as we got closer and the line to get in was even worse, but knowing Devi, he wasn’t one to just wait around. He was definitely an impatient man.
“Looks like it’s going to be a long wait.” We walked up to the end of the line, but I had a sneaking feeling I was going to be dragged up to the front of the line.
Just as I had thought it, Devi was in the process of doing it. He had grabbed my arm and was pulling me towards the door. “Yeah, I’m not going to wait in line. Let’s get in there and start having some fun again.”
When we got to the front of the line we were met with a massive man, about the same height as Devi, but with at least double his muscles. The massive man looked down at me and over to Devi. Surprisingly enough, he stepped aside letting us in.
“H-how’d you do that?” I was following after Devi into the bass pounding club.
“How do you think Avi?” He looked back at me, flashing me a sly grin.
As we got further into the club, it was hard to hear anything other than the thumping bass of the music playing. Lights flashed almost randomly and people filled every corner of the place. Devi had let go of me and was weaving through the crowd of bodies, it was hard to keep up with him, but I was sure he was heading for the bar and that’s where I went too.
As I reached the bar, so had Devi. I watched him as he ordered drinks from the bartender. He looked over to me, I saw his lips move, but could barely make out what it was he was saying. I shook my head and pointed to my ear. Possibly a mistake on my end.
Devi moved closer, leaned in and spoke into my ear. “So what do you want to do first little master. Slam a few drinks or dance?” His heated breath tickled me, it was almost hard to respond after that. I could feel a rush of heat hit my face and snake down my body.
I needed drinks.
I motioned for drinks first and he nodded in agreement. Devi had called me his master… I wasn’t a master. I had to look around to get my mind off of the nonsense he’d just spoke, but it wasn’t helping. “I-I’m not your master.” I said just a little louder than normal, hoping he would hear.
Devi nudged me making me turn back around to see the drinks ready for us. I grabbed hold of it and threw it back taking a larger than normal gulp from it. It was sweet, with the bitter taste of alcohol after. I took another, and another until the cup was empty.
Devi motioned to the bartender for another drink. I was going to sit here till I was buzzed again, and maybe even for the rest of the night. After the third drink I had slammed back, Devi ordered another, but he didn’t let me take hold of the drink right away. He came down to my eye level, close. So close that I could see the soft freckles that covered his face, it had my heart racing.
“You’re going to drink this one a little slower, okay?” I nodded in agreement and he handed me back the drink. With drink in hand, I showed him I heard him and took a small sip from the cup. “Let’s go walk around, we should be able to find a nice table close to the dance floor.”
This wasn’t the most fun I’d had, but it was nice to be in a place where I didn’t have to worry about impressing anyone and really socializing.
As we walked through the crowds of people I felt a hand slide along my back, I looked to see who it was. Arron was standing behind me.
“Arron?” I squinted in disbelief as I looked up at my ex-boss. His large hands grabbed hold of my hips. I couldn’t help the wash of fear that came over me, and almost as if it was instinct I called out for Devi.
“I’ve been trying to get a hold of you Avi. I came to your house, but seen you leaving with that copper haired nut, so I followed you around today.” I was in shock. What the hell was going on, Arron didn’t look like himself anymore, he looked tired and worn. I hadn’t been gone from work for that long. What the hell was going on? “Quick, come with me.” I was being dragged off through the crowd, my drink splashing around.
“W-Wait Arron!!” I was panicking as I got farther away from Devi. “STOP!” I pulled my arm from him, it didn’t break free from his grip, but it stopped him from pulling me further.
“What is it Avi?” Arron was close to me, so close I could smell his minty breath. “Listen, I can get you your job back. With a raise, with a promotion. I just want you to come back Avi. It’s not the same.” Arron had let my arm go, but was holding onto my shoulders with a painful grip. “I need you back Avi.”
Something was seriously wrong with him, something that Devi had done to him. I was sure of it. “Listen Arron, you need to come with me. You need to talk to Devi. He can help you with how you’re feeling. You know this isn’t right, you don’t really feel like this towards me.” I was pulling from his grip, Devi had to fix this and fix this now. “DEVI!” I yelled. Why hadn’t he come yet? I could see something crazy brewing in Arron’s glazed eyes.
“You mean talk to that freak that made you quit. Does he have something on you? Is he blackmailing you?” Arron looked around crazed. I dropped my drink as he gripped me with a tight arm around my shoulders, pulling me in the same direction as before.
“N-no Arron, it’s nothing like that. Let me go! Let me go please!” I was doing my best to push him off. The man I had once daydreamed over was becoming my worst nightmare. “Arron!”
“Shhhh.” Arron had cupped a hand over my mouth. I was filled with fear and trying to grab hold of the people we were passing. Trying to get some kind of attention on what was going on right now. “We have to leave now Avi. You can come to my place. I’ll keep you safe. I’ll keep you.”
What the hell had Devi done to him? This whole situation was far from lucky. We had made it out the door and Arron was pulling my towards a car that was waiting nearby. Fear was pumping through me. “STOP! Someone! Someone help me!!” I was yelling, hoping for anyone to help. I was looking around in panic, struggling to stop myself from going forward. “Help!” I was crying now, tears streaming and the people that did see what was going on just stood there. We were feet from the car now. I didn’t want to get in. I didn’t want to know where this nightmare would lead me.
"Devi… please help me.”
A/N: Well I was going to make it end with some fun… but it just took me someplace else. Oh what a mind I have xD
