The police showed up fifteen minutes later, in the form of two patrol officers. Trent took the lead in explaining what had happened, showing them where the bodies were. The officers immediately put in a call for a detective and a crime scene team, and then one of them went up to Vera’s room to take over keeping an eye on her, sending Ed and Mick away. They went down to join the others, who at that point were in the kitchen as it was the only space large enough to hold them all that didn’t contain a body, or a view of one.
