Zander and I stayed in that tower that felt like another realm in comfortable silence.
I slept surprisingly well, and my heart sank when a warrior was waiting for me at the end of the hall the following morning. He walked behind me in silence until I got to the dining room to find Jude sitting alone at the table.
“Hey,” he greeted me with a smile, standing. “Coffee?”
I nodded, wiping my eyes. “Please.” I thanked him as he handed me a mug. “Sleep well?” he asked.
“Sure.” I shrugged. “It’s hard to tell.”
I started to eat in silence. "He's not coming," Jude said.
"Hmm?" I asked, averting my eyes. I knew I was looking at the door every few seconds.
