Lies!

Nathan leans forward, his expression shifting from warm hospitality to something far more serious. His eyes narrow as he studies me, his tone sharp and direct. “Now that we’re comfortable, will you start by explaining who you are?” I meet his gaze head-on, unflinching. “My name is Lenora. I am the fairy queen of this realm, and these are my guardians: Daisy, Marco, Maya, Arya, and Claude.” He chuckles in response, but it’s not the same light-hearted amusement from before. It’s laced with disbelief. “Nice try,” he says, leaning back in his chair and folding his arms across his broad chest. “But there has never been a fairy queen in this realm. And you…” His eyes flick over me with a scrutinizing intensity. “You smell awfully familiar. I don’t think a fairy is capable of releasing the aura you showed me earlier. So, who are you really?” He smirks, clearly waiting for me to reveal some hidden truth, watching my every move with the sharpness of a predator. I take a deep breath, steadying myself. “Nothing I spoke was a lie. But you’re right—I didn’t give you the full truth.” I lean forward, locking eyes with him. “I am the fairy queen of this realm, but I am also the daughter of Leonis, the alpha king.” For a moment, I see it—the subtle crack in his expression, the slight widening of his eyes as he processes what I’ve said. But before he can respond, a voice cuts through the tension. “Lies!” one of the female wolves, spits out the word with venom, glaring at me from across the table. “She’s taking you for a fool, Alpha.” Nathan rubs his forehead in clear frustration, but she presses on, standing up from her chair in outrage. “She is not an alpha. No female has ever been born to an alpha. She’s a witch! She wants to poison your mind!” The room trembles slightly as Nathan slams his hands on the table, the wood groaning under the force of his anger. “Get out!” His voice reverberates through the room, carrying the weight of his authority. “If you can’t show some respect, you don’t belong at this table.” Her face pales, and I can feel the thick, oppressive presence of Nathan’s alpha aura. She cowers under it, visibly trembling before storming out of the room without another word. The room falls into an uneasy silence, the tension hanging in the air like a storm about to break. Nathan, still rubbing his forehead, finally speaks. “I apologize for Savannah’s outburst,” he mutters, though his gaze is distant, as if he’s trying to make sense of everything I’ve said. I offer a soft nod, understanding the weight of Savannah’s doubts. “Alpha Nathan, I understand why she would say those things. What I’m telling you is… difficult to believe.” Nathan exhales slowly, gesturing for me to continue. “I was born in a different realm,” I explain, my voice calm and steady. “My mother was a fairy queen, and my father, Leonis, was an alpha king. They were soulmates… forbidden lovers. They left me with my mother’s guardians when I was a baby, to protect me from the dangers they faced. I only discovered this truth a few days ago when I turned 18 and unlocked my fairy abilities.” I pause, searching Nathan’s face for any sign of understanding. “My destiny has called me to this realm. I plan to stay, and I plan to save my people—both the fairies and the werewolves.” For a moment, the room is quiet, the weight of my words settling over everyone present. Nathan’s face remains unreadable, but I can sense the gears turning in his mind. One of the male wolves—sitting on Nathan’s right—speaks up, breaking the silence. “Alpha Nathan, may I ask something?” His voice is deep but respectful. “Yes, Beta Sam,” Nathan says, gesturing for him to continue. “As my right hand, you may speak.” Sam turns his attention to me, his expression thoughtful. “Queen Lenora,” he begins, “other than your undeniable alpha aura, is there any other way you can prove your alpha lineage? Can you show us your wolf, perhaps?” A pang of uncertainty tugs at my heart. I know this question was coming, but the answer is one I’m not entirely sure of myself. I take a deep breath before responding. “Beta Sam, I… haven’t shifted yet.” A murmur of surprise ripples through the wolves, but I continue. “My father told me that I may shift on the first full moon after I turn 18.” I hesitate, feeling the weight of their stares. “But there’s no guarantee. He said there has never been a hybrid like me—let alone a female alpha. It’s possible that I may not shift at all.” Sam nods, his expression thoughtful but not unkind. “I see.” “But,” I add, looking down at my hand, “I do have this.” I look at my ring, its golden surface glinting in the light. “This was my father’s ring, passed down to him through generations. A long line of ancestors wore this before me.” I place my hand on the table, letting it rest in the center. The room falls silent as all eyes fall on the ancient piece of jewelry. The gold band is simple yet elegant, with a large black diamond—a mark of royalty, power, and lineage. The air seems to shift, the wolves sensing something from the ring, something… undeniable. Nathan’s gaze locks onto it, his expression unreadable once more as he leans in, studying it closely.
