Rory had set up camp not far from the Core, although he’d made sure to choose a place hidden among the curving labyrinth of passages. The building, like the others, was made of concrete and glass and echoed strangely as Blaise entered. The air was slightly damp, and the windows grimy. Rory made a face as he heard skittering from a room further back in the building. “I hate rats,” he mumbled, scowling and fingering his holstered weapon. “Those are cockroaches.” “That makes me feel so much better. Thanks, Blaise.” After he and Stella dismounted, Rory switched on a small device that started emitting a soft, blue light, illuminating the space around them. A moment later, it started emitting heat as well, and Rory held his hands toward it to warm them. “So, you said on the way here, you’v
