Jace flashed a brief grin. “Yep. Didn’t want you doing something stupid that could give it away.”
“Stupid? Give me credit for having some brains, damn it.”
“Okay, so maybe stupid wasn’t the right word, but if you knew I was there and keeping an eye of you, you might have figured it was safe to catch some fresh air on the walkway, or even take a walk around the motel grounds.”
