“Mostly.” Steve poured them coffee, decided that was it, and sat. Jace did as well; they took what they wanted from the bowl, and began to eat. “This is damned good,” Jace proclaimed after taking a few bites. “Thank you.” Steve managed a smile. “Not gourmet, but it works.” “It does.” They ate, silently, for several minutes. Then Jace pointed his fork at Steve. “I didn’t take what you said early personally, if that’s what’s bothering you.” “Good, because it wasn’t. Personal, that is.” “I know.” Needing to change the subject, Steve asked him about the protection job he been on that afternoon. Jace told him, kidding about how boring it was.
