LOVE YOU"DIANA HENDERS was troubled. Ever since the holdup several days
before she had not been able to expunge from her thoughts a
recollection of the sinister circumstances that pointed an accusing
finger at Bull. There had always been a deep-seated loyalty
existing between the Henders and their employees and this alone
would have been sufficient to have brought the girl to arms in the
defense of the reputation of any of her father's "boys." In the
case of Bull there were added reasons why she could not bear to
foster a suspicion of his guilt.
Not only had he been a trusted foreman, but there was something
in the man himself, or rather in his influence upon the imagination
of the girl, that made it almost impossible for her to believe that
he had shot Mack Harbe
