Karen Lawson was taken aback but quickly tried to console her daughter. "It's not the weekend, and he's probably busy with work. Maybe he's in a meeting right now."
She glanced at her daughter and continued, "Let's have the family driver pick us up for now. You can arrange to meet him after work. But this time, Annabelle, don't be as headstrong as you were three years ago. Make sure to apologize to him properly."
With the idea of being a "stand-in" and the news of the "divorce" in mind, Annabelle felt a boost of confidence. Her mother's comforting words only added to that belief.
"I'm not apologizing to him. I haven't heard from him in three years, and now I've finally reached out, but he's ignoring me. Next time I see him, I'm not going to speak to him so easily."
