Christopher's lips curled into a knowing smile, but Anna quickly dismissed his speculation with a laugh.
“Come on, this isn't some novel where there's a tragic love story or a 'chasing after the wife after the divorce' plot.”
Anna didn't take Christopher's guess seriously at all. The idea that Charles might suddenly realize he couldn't live without her just because she mentioned divorce was too far-fetched. If that were true, it would mean Charles’s heart was far too easy to win—something she had been chasing for an entire lifetime, only to find it out of reach.
If signing the divorce papers actually made him care, then everything she had clung to in the past seemed even more like a joke.
